Default Hey GM-Corvette engineers!

How about making future Corvette owners happy. Put the fuel filler on the RIGHT side instead of the left. Currently, when I pull into a fuel station to fill up, I have to park further away from my pump because the long Corvette doors swing open so far. Added to this are metal posts used as barriers at most fuel stations and are positioned at the ends of the fuel islands. Sometimes, because I have to park so close the the center line of the lane there is very little room for the vehicle next to me to open their door.

If the fuel filler was on the right side, I could pull in close to the pump, have plenty of room to open the driver's door, and still leave enough room for the vehicle next to me.

So, how about it?

I think it can be considered a safety issue in some parts of the country. Getting out, grabbing the nozzle, filling it up and leaving with having to wander around a gas station while gassing up a high profile $70,000 to $120,000 car seems like a good idea to me.

I feel the same way as the OP and for the same reasons. Another benefit to having it on the passenger side is that if one had to add gas from a gas can (after running out) while stopped on a highway shoulder they'd be less likely to get hit by a passing vehicle.

Exactly right. The Europeans have it in the correct place. It should be on the passenger side.

Given that Corvettes have been evolutionary designs, don't hold your breath. The side the filler goes on is primarily a matter of packaging, and to move it from one side to another would require moving other items. It's just not likely.

BTW, I have had cars with fillers on left and on right, found those on left perhaps a little more convenient, but really it's not a big deal. That's why there's the little arrow on the fuel gauge to remind you.

PS: I think there was once a Jaguar with two fillers, one on each side, but it's hard to believe that anyone would do that today given the added cost and possible safety implications.

I've never run out of gas. If I did I would call AAA and have them bring gas.

Either side has its advantages and I just have to pay attention to which side when I pull in. My GMC pickup and Z06 have the fill port on the driver's side while my Cadillac ATS is on the passenger side so consistency would be nice. Maybe the best was the very first new car I bought, a 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo SS with the fuel inlet in the middle behind the license plate.

Chevrolet, please keep the way it is. Much easier to accurately place the car by a pump when the gas filler is on the same side as the steering wheel. Right side is great in UK countries, not the USA.

Just turn your car around and it will be on the other side

I have enough trouble getting my act together as it is, and with mine all on the same side it's not something I have to think about.

Plus, with the majority of vehicles with the filler on the left side you have to go against the flow when pulling up to the pumps.

It should always be on the left. Rules of the road, stay to the right. When you pull into a gas station, why would you want to be on the wrong side of the road to get the right side of the car next to the pump?

Let's hope the C8 fills behind the license plate with a little flip down mechanism. LOL.

You have to cross to the left, not stay to the right, with the filler on the left. Right?
