Default C7 Shift boot help

I bought a 2015 Stingray last weekend, and I am currently working on getting it up to date on maintenance and cleaning it up. Unfortunately it looks like the previous owner ate in the vehicle a lot as there are tons of crumbs and debris in the crevices of the center console. I took the leather trim piece off the drivers side and was able to clean that portion up, but there are crumbs under the edges of the M7 shift boot. There is a picture of the shift boot being removable without disassembling the entire center console on the short shifter install sticky thread. The pictures state that you can used a soft pry tool to unclip the shift boot. Just wondering if anyone has any tips about removing the shift boot without breaking any clips?

Thanks,
Corey

Corey,

Congrats on your new ride !!!!

I've had my console apart a couple of times..... NO broken clips. Just use plastic trim pry tools. You can buy a set on Amazon for $6 or $7..... You can also get them at an auto parts store.

Most of the interior is held together with "Clips". They just pop out. Just start at one end, or the other and gently pry up and the clips will release.

So you were able to remove the shift boot without disassembling the console?

Also, thanks for the warm welcome!

For the project I was doing ( installing LED cupholder lights), I needed to remove the entire console. There is a sticky note for my install on the forum.....

To answer your question, I did remove the drivers side long piece of trim (after removing the shift boot housing). Next up was to remove the shift boot housing. I have an automatic transmission so I had to put the car in neutral to get the shift **** off. If you are only interested in cleaning up crumbs around the perimeter of the shift boot housing, I would suggest you just leave the **** on, and pop up the perimeter shift boot housing. The leather shift boot is ATTACHED to the perimeter housing and not easily removed. I would not suggest removing it. They even sell it as a 1 piece unit for replacement. If that is what you are attempting, I would try to get the crumbs out another way. If you want the rectangular shift boot housing out, then that's simple, as I described earlier.

Just added this pic....

Ok. That helps. I will see what I can do. I know it might seem a little OCD, but the idea that the console is dirty really kills me. I am very particular about my vehicles and I want it to be as close to perfect as possible.

You might try using a soft makeup brush to sweep dust and crumbs out of all the crevices, along with a vacuum.
You can get a pack at Walmart cheap, and they will not scratch anything.

That's not OCD Corey, that's just being a normal Corvette owner for 99% of us.

Congratulations on the Vette, and welcome to the forum. And don't forget to wave.

It's been a while but I remember getting that boot off was kind of a pain even with the console off. It's been over a year though, and I've worked on a few different brands of cars since then.

So to see, I just went and tried it and couldn't get it off. The clips holding it down aren't push pin, they are interlocking. However, if you just push a tool in there, the boot flexes enough to get a cloth between it and the console so you can clean it. I just did mine while I was trying it.

Haha, well I'm glad to know that I'm in good company on the OCD front. And I guess I will just settle for trying to clean it the best I can. No sense in accidentally breaking something just to get a few crumbs out. And it's funny you mention the wave because when I took the car out for a test drive, I got the wave 2 minutes after pulling out of the dealership from a guy in a Yellow C6.
