I'm now about to contact dealers to price out 2017 GS coupe and get trade in value for my 2004 coupe with 17,600 miles. If trade value is good I will order GS and get it the way I want. If not I will try to sell on my own and mostly miss the order cut off date and have to find one on lot, Which might be difficult being I want Spice Red interior with Blade silver as my #1 choice and haven't found one on a dealer inventory yet. Question is which worked out for you best selling out right or trade ? I know about not having to pay tax on value of trade when comparing to private sale. Thanks Dave
Selling privately can be a real pain the butt dealing with tire kickers and people who just want to test drive a vette, not to mention the effort and time.
If it were me? I would just call Mike Furman at Criswell and be done.
I contacted two big volume Corvette dealers and they had, by far, the worst trade in value. I ended buying a barely used one locally and saved a lot on the car and made an extra $3K on my trade. Still get the tax break on a used car when trading in too. But finding a used GS to your liking will be tough.
My preference is find a private buyer and have the dealer broker the deal. That way you get the tax break and the best value for your trade. The dealer my want a couple hundred to broker the deal, but it is still better than a regular trade in.

I put my 2006 Victory Red 3LT up for sale in AutoTrader and had calls that same night. It was sold after 4 days. I got at least $4K more that way compared to what a dealer would have bought it for.

It's always best to sell a car privately rather than to a dealer who will low-ball its value.
BTW, I was under the impression the final sales price was not required to order a new Vette (?)

Worried me trying to sell privately, would have been my luck the person wrapped the car around a tree or worse. Traded it in at Criswell no muss no fuss. Got a better than expected trade and it comes off the selling price of the new one all is well.
Plus Mike got the re sale of my trade in. Everybody wins!
I paid "cash" for my factory-ordered 2017 Stingray - so a 'trade in' was not an issue. I sold my 2004 Silverado on Craigslist........and it went FAST. I did this because I knew the Corvette was coming.
I already have my 2015 Nissan Altima "daily driver" - so I did not have to worry about any trade-ins.
A low price on a new car from a forum dealer is a wonderful thing, but keep in mind that might mean getting a low-ball price on your trade. Life experience has taught me that you should sell your "old" car on your own FIRST - and then go out to buy something new as a separate deal....even if it means you must have a 'beater' vehicle in the background to drive around for awhile.

Silver with Spice Red Interior 2016 Production Numbers
I got out of my ctsv which lost a ton of value in the short year I had it on a trade a got ALL my money back.... I ended up paying about $2000 more than my Corvette was worth at the time but then I got more than $5000 than I should have for my CTS V so it worked out for me. As far as your C-5 is concerned I doubt they'll give you much for it at all but It can never hurt to try. Factor in the tax benefit and that will help you make the best decision.

He will be one of the dealers I will be calling.

Hoping for fare trade and I get GMS so hopefully that will help with discount, It seems like Mike has a lot of happy customers.

I don't want to worry about still having old car when new one comes in.

I would love just a fare trade offer and be done.

As far as your trade you can't have it both ways big discount on new and retail for yours?
What do you want for your car to sell it outright?
Yep I believe your right about finding one in stock, I'm I know I can't have it both ways . Just hoping for a trade offer were I think we both would come out happy. As for price that's my this weekend project when the rain turns back to snow , Planning on checking Nada ,KBB. and see if I can find some auction prices to help come up with a far price. Thanks Dave

Exactly can't hurt to try and agree with tax helping out.

I would love to avoid selling privately .Would like far trade and after this weekend hopefully I will have a good idea on that amount after checking Nada KBB and auctions.
There a person on the forum that some times post auction results anyone remember his user name? If your the person and see this could you post any recent auction results for 2004 corvette or tell me how to find results. Thanks Dave

Mike Furman offered me a fair trade in price for my 2014 C7 Convertible. The actual trade price wouldn't be accomplished until the day of the transaction. The car had to be actually seen to firm the price.
Unfortunately - Criswell Chevrolet is a few hours distance from home.

For me selling my car is too much of a hassle I wish to avoid. So if the dealer gives me a decent trade value that is the way I go.
I guess it all depends on "What's in your wallet?"
Considering the amount of cars produced, and the amount of low mileage competition.
My time is worth more then having to deal with the tire kickers, and lowballers, who can't afford the car in the first place.
Much less having to go to the DMV, and the bank to make sure everything is copisthetic, and transferred out of my name, if you're fortunate enough to find the right buyer.
Otherwise you can have a few surprises you weren't expecting down the line.
Give Carnax is a shot as well. Their price to purchase is good for 7 days.
My local Carmax beat the big dealers I contacted by literally THOUSANDS of dollars on my C6 GS trade-in when I was looking for a C7. And that's not even considering shipping. I sold my GS to Carmax for cash and bought my C7 elsewhere.
Lots of people seem to have a problem with Carmax, but the check they gave me cashed and spent just fine...
If you want the best price for your car, sell it privately. It may take a few months....or not.....but you will always get screwed by a dealer, especially if they're offering a deep discount on the new one. I usually list on cars.com and "usedcorvetteforsale.com" I sold my 2010 GS last may for $100 more than I paid for it three years earlier....which ended up being $12K more than any dealer offered me in trade. You need to be patient and hold out for your price. It will come. You can only negotiate from position of strength when you do not have a trade. Otherwise, your big discount just went out the window.
I rarely sold locally. All the cars I've sold were usually to an out-of-state buyer who sent a truck to pick it up. No hassle at all. Good luck!

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
