Got a question with the A8. Has anyone noticed that after the C/7 sets for a few hours that when you start it up and put it in drive there is a time delay until the transmission engages. I had my 2015 in for regular service and asked the service writer if he had any service alerts for the A/8. he said no.
If it also delays when cold, you probably need a new torque converter. Delays going into gear is one of the symptoms of a bad torque converter. Check thread "A8's and Torque Converter Failure" for the other symptoms of a bad TC.

Tell your SM to check TSB #16-NA-014 (attached). How often does this occur in your car? Mine does it only sporadically, about once every three months, and has not gotten any worse over time. As per the TSB it requires a stator shaft support replacement and the addition and/or replacement of some o-rings. The symptoms of a bad TC are typically shuddering at light throttle and tach oscillation, both only while in V4 mode.
If you can't duplicate the delay symptoms at the dealer they will likely not get authorization from GM to repair it. My car recently had the TC replaced and although the tranny was out of the car they wouldn't fix the delay issue because the dealer couldn't verify it, even though it is a known problem with this tranny. If it gets worse they'll need to remove the tranny again. Go figure. I'm hoping the new TC and new fluid chemistry will magically fix the delay issue, too, but even if it doesn't the problem is little more than a quirky irritation I must endure every three months or so. In my case the delay is 5-10 seconds, then it won't do it again until the next episode.
BTW, a TCM software update done about a year ago did not fix my delay issues.
If you read the threads, you will find one that explains that the A8 is "self-learning",, and that the "lurch" between 1st and 2nd at start-up is common.
Doesn't mean anything is wrong. Doesn't mean it requires service.
And it does go away after a while.

Nothing you said whatsoever relates to OP's problem.
Had that issue along with delayed shifting, 1-2 and 2-3. Dealer installed a new TC. Had it back a few days and noticed oil spot on drive. Leaking rear end. Still had 2-3 delayed (hard shift). This time they repaired the leak and GM engineers told them to add new program. Had it back for ~ 1 week now and seems good so far. They were working to sell me a new Z-06, I told them that I may go buy a Dodge HellCat if I still have problems with this one. Mine started acting up around 9K I had the TC replaced at 16K. I drive 130 miles one way to the dealer. They do give me a nice loaner.
