Default Modified factory CAI

First off, the factory C7 intake systems are very efficient and designed well. Looking at after market cold air systems that are out, it def is not a cheap mod with little gains of HP and TQ. So I decided to modify my factory intake system with an aftermarket K&N air filter.

So this is the tubing of my factory intake system.

After some analyzing, cutting, re-designing, and patching..this is what my modified factory intake system looks like now.

The finished product, with NO check engine lights on. I feel an increase in throttle response. Also I noticed an increase in intake air volume. Without a dyno I am not going to say it increased HP since I have no way to prove it, but in creating a more free flowing tube with less restrictions must be a benefit.

The inside of the tube is very smooth, with no obstructions, and ever location that was cut and patched has been sanded down and shaped to flow with the shape of the tube.

While I agree you modified intake looks better than stock, you have to ask why GM went through the effort to create such a convoluted appearing intake if it did not have a benefit?

Seems like you did a good job... I'd be interested to see how it holds up and also see if you eventually get any warning lights. Nice work!

It could be that GM was trying to quiet down the engine noise. That way they can noise up the exhaust more. Noise requirements/restrictions are of the total sound coming from the car.

YES! Most intakes from the factory are designed for everyday driving even in sports cars with noise requirements in mind.
My modified intake is much louder, and my exhaust has also increased in noise due to more airflow.

Actually it has been holding up excellent with no problems. I did this mod last summer, actually in 2016..so i have had put on 2k miles ever since with no issues. At that time I was not a memeber on this forum, so I decided to post it for others to see. Just recently I changed my tune on my Diablo to a 93 Intake tune, instead of just a 93 tune. Again with no issues, runs better than ever.

Nicely done and makes sense. Would this mod have any warranty implications?

It depends on the dealer. I see it being no different than an aftermarket Intake system. I actually took in my car this year and no issues what so ever with the dealer.

did you have any noticeable oil pooling in the containers you cut off? some cars have non, some have it terrible.

Thanks guys! Regarding the oil pooling..that's what I was worried about at first too. But it's bone dry, not one spot of oil. I don't even have a oil catch can yet, but I do plan on getting one anyway.
