Default When do you use Track Mode?

When do you use Track Mode? Aside from at the track I mean. Many people say they use Sport mode, often when driving around town. Some just leave it on. I don't because to me that would dull the Sport mode experience. But nobody really talks about Track mode and when they use it. Do you use it driving around the street? I sometimes worry that the suspension may be so tight as to cause damage if I hit an unsuspecting pothole.

Thoughts?

Never use T mode unless on smooth track surface. When in T THE axle is not flexible.
It's rigid. Hitting a pot hole can damage your rims.
Stay in S. on street.

I usually use track wet for daily drives. I like track symbology and exhaust settings the most, but dont want to lock either into fixed setting. Wet will set the shocks into touring settings. Traction and stability is also max authority.

I agree that Track PTM/Wet is a very good street mode, and is very good in wet or cold conditions. MSRC and Steering are in Tour mode, and the eLSD helps a lot w/ traction.

In wet conditions on the street I use Weather Mode. In dry conditions I use either ECO or Tour Mode. On Track in Track Mode I have used Wet, Sport 1, Sport 2 and Race. Lately have been just using Wet and Race.

The exhaust is set into permanent track mode and the gauge displays are set in permanent Tour Mode.

I use Track mode with PTM set to Race whenever I leave a gathering of car nuts. Most of the time I spin out into the crowd. Really makes Everyone scatter. Also makes for great YouTube videos.

If you know the surface is smooth, you're okay in Track. If you hit a pothole in Track, you're much more likely to bend a rim than if you were in Sport or Touring mode.

Jag, that's the beauty of Track PTM/Wet. MSRC and steering are in Tour mode. Have you ever tried it?

Shoot, I haven't even been behind the wheel of my Grand Sport long enough to try it! The Spring Mountain instructors just left it at "only use the Track mode on a smooth track surface" and didn't go into the specifics of Track Wet mode with regard to the risk of rim damage on the open road.

While that's certainly true of what you get when you simply turn the dial to Track, I'm surprised that a Spring Mt. instructor would make a black and white statement like that. Pushing the center button on the mode dial while in Track takes you into an entirely different world (PTM).

They cover the different modes in their classes, but they just didn't specifically addressed potential wheel damage relates to each PTM mode.

The base car; track mode changes the steering and engine fuel scheduling not anything else. I do use it occasionally when running the back road twisties.

I opened this thread to say something generic. "Spring mountain instructor said to use S on the street so you don't bend a rim."

And ended up learning a new way to use PTM. I always wanted tour shock settings but sport or preferably track throttle tip in.

If this works as advertised, I will be driving around in PTMwet from now on. And just blame froosh if I bend a rim.

OK, here are the specifics on PTM. The alleged advice above to never use TRACK except on smooth pavement from the Spring Mt. Instructor makes no sense. The chart below shows why.

On a Z51 (with MSRC), GS, or Z06, turn the mode selector to TRACK, then quickly press the center button on the mode selector twice That puts you in TRACK/PTM Mode. Once in PTM you use the dial to select between the modes below. The chart shows how each TRACK PTM mode is configured.

When in the PTM modes, pressing the center button on the mode selector again turns off PTM and puts you back normal Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport, and Track selector mode.

A lot of folks use PTM/Wet or Dry on rough race tracks to settle the chassis, but they're perfectly good street settings as well because you still have stability and traction control, as well as softer ride and steering.

How does the above graph change if you do not have MSRC all other things being the same?

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, you have to have MSRC to have performance traction management (PTM). On my '14 Z51 spec sheet, it lists MSRC w/ PTM (FE4) as a $1795 option on the Z51.
