Meh, The Goodyear Summers aren't as good as the Pilot Sport AS 3+. The new Michelin Ultra Perf. All Seasons 3+ do a better job than most of the Summer tires do.
Michelin themselves said they really can't go any further with their summer tires. Their goal is to make their all seasons as good as the summers now. They claim the MP4SS are the pinnacle.
First of all, YES, the SS does come with F1 Gen II Goodyears. Not long ago I got to do a great comparison between a SS (on Goodyears) and a Z06 (on PSS Rubber) at Motorsports Raceway in Cresson TX. This was during an HPDE; one student was driving the SS and my other was in the Z06....very cool (mid 50's) temps and somewhat of a damp day; light drizzle after lunch. To my amazement, the Camaro's Goodyear tires would come up to temp in about a lap/ 2 max, were as the PSS rubber took a good 3 to 4 laps before they would START to stick. By the end of a 20 min session, the SS could be pushed much harder into corners than the Vette under the same cool and damp conditions.
Just to set the record straight, I absolutely loved my PSS on my Z51 for the 25K road miles (plus a dozen track sessions) that they lasted. I still can't believe Michelin built a tire that could stick (on track) like glue and get twice the mileage as the Goodyear's Michelin!
Camaro's have had GY's for years. My 13 ZL1 has them. They do not heat up as quick or grip as well in cold temperatures as the PSS on my 17 GS. They do have the same below 20F cracking problem, like most track oriented tires. I suspect the GY's tolerate heat from summer track day driving better than the PSS, but I haven't tested this as I haven't got the GS on the track yet.
I never had an issue with the EMTs that came with my C6Z. They wore pretty well if the alignment was correct (the outside of the rear tires wore out quickly on a lot of C6Zs), they handled very well on the track and they didn't do bad in wet weather. There aren't a lot of tires that have problems with the tread cracking in low temps and the EMTs weren't one of those tires. I used to take the car out on clear days in the winter in below zero temps and never cracked the tread.
Most of the problems people had with them are the same problems you hear them complaining about with the PSS tires. They can't get grip, the back end snaps out need grippier rear tires and the cause is always the same cause as with the EMTs the complainers really can't drive.
