Default PDR reflection and color fix?

Aloha!

Has anyone figured out a way to lessen the windshield reflection that shows up on your PDR videos? The attached photo is how mine records... this is the average look, sometimes it's not as noticeable and other times it's even worse.

Also, even on sunny days, sometimes the quality of the color / brightness is terrible! It looks like a dreary day in some of the videos when it really wasn't. We live in Hawaii for goodness sakes.. sometimes it was cloudy when we were out, but these videos are not an accurate picture of how the skies have always looked. Any thoughts?

I'm not really sure what you can do about the glare coming off the dash. Your dealer might be able to correct the image a little bit if there's an update for your software. They could at least check. Based on those images, I'm not sure there's much they can do, they look pretty good for this system. It's a shame they don't put at least a 1080p camera in there. Good luck!

Thank you Rooster! Do you know, or can anyone else chime in... is this standard glare for everyone?

Maybe it's just this Hawaii sun! I guess I'll be finding out soon when I ship my girl back to the mainland!

Yeah, I've seen those reflections you are talking about just about every time I drive on a sunny day. Not a whole lot that can be done about it, though. It doesn't bother me because there as so many other great things about the car.

To this...

You can usually get rid of the glare and any other anomalies you don't like.

Yes, I've often seen the same reflections and accept them as unavoidable.

Another phantom from yesteryear, it seems. Plus, a misposted entry to bring it to life...

But, nevertheless since it's already zombified... regarding glare, simply get or make a polarizing lens to put over the camera lens if it's anywhere one can get to.

I have the same issue. It's dependent on the dash color. Placing a black microfiber towel over the area of your dash that reflects the sunlight helps to reduce or sometimes eliminate the problem.

The problem is getting the towel to stay in place during high G open window maneuvers at high speeds. I have been thinking of building a thin cardboard housing to attach to the front of the camera mount that would have flat black paint on the inside and would block the light reflecting off the dash from hitting the windshield in front of the camera. That might also help reduce the amount of video dimming that occurs when the road ahead is shady and sunlight is causing the camera to shut down the exposure. Some of my videos from the T3 and T4 area at VIR are so dark even though taken in broad daylight the only way you can see the cars in front of me when viewing the video is when their brake lights are lit.

Bill
