Wonder where the oil temp sensor is?
Today I was watching my gages as I gently motored my cold engine down the road and I got to wondering where the oil temp sensor is. As the oil gage reading was passing 150 degrees, not all that far from home, I got to wondering that. I feel pretty sure the oil in the wet sump wasn't up to that temperature yet. No way that much oil has heated up yet. The yellow warning line on the tach had crept past 5K line so the computer is saying its warm enough to let her rip to that point but I'm thinking I'm still pumping cold oil up the system. Sure, the cylinder walls are hot now but that seems only part of the equation. What do you folks think? TIA.
BTW... '15 base coupe, A8, wet sump.

They're typically in/near the oil filter housing.

On wet sump engines I believe the oil temp sensor is just above the oil filter. On dry sump engines it is on the side of the oil tank (in the passenger fender).

I dimly recall something about the location being somewhere near the filter (and before the cooler) from an overheating ZO6 topic. You might do a search in the mega thread in the ZO6 section.
