Corvette SUV: Genius or blasphemy?

Porsche also knows how to keep residual value of the 911 high by managing build volume.
I has no idear why American car companies never learn. High residual on used cars supports high msrp on new cars. The base 911 is $85k new

Not sure what your point is.
The "911," actually now starting at $91K MSRP, is only one of many different Porsche models. And they are actually different models, as opposed to the "sub-models" marketed by Chevrolet as Corvettes.

IMO, I think that it would be smarter for GM to offer a Cadillac XT5 V. We almost bought an Audi SQ5 to replace our Cadillac SRX because of the performance, but stayed with the new XT5. It performs much better than the SRX, but if they put the 3.6 twin turbo in it -it would be awesome.

It really depends on whether GM thinks that Corvette is in and of itself desirable as a brand. SUV's work for Porsche because owning a Porsche is desirable to some just because it's a Porsche. The SUV lets them tap into a set of customers they would never reach with a sports car (probably any car at this point given how much Americans seem to lust after SUV's). If this is also true for Corvette then a SUV makes sense as they can tap into those who desire a Corvette but can't/won't buy a sports car.
I'm out of touch with this customer base so I don't know if this formula would work for Corvette. Neither my wife nor I have ever had any interest in SUV's nor have we ever been interested in cars from a status/prestige viewpoint. But I suspect this would be tougher for GM to pull off than it would for Porsche, it seems to me that the German brands have more prestige associated with them. If my perception is right they would have to change that first.
I'm sure there are some that would love a Corvette SUV, the real question is are there enough to justify what would probably have to be a new platform.

If it's going to be another GM clone SUV with a Corvette nameplate, then "no", I wouldn't want to see the Corvette name used on a "me too" SUV.
If it's going to be a stand-alone performance SUV, priced reasonably, I'm all for it and would support it.
We just bought an SUV. Didn't consider the Porsche because of the extremely high maintenance/repair costs and a steep depreciation rate. Also, not really interested in any vehicle associated with the VW financial mess. So we settled for a boring but reliable Lexus.

The CTS-V has been called the " 4 Door Corvette" and it did come in a station wagon version thru 2011, when it was discontinued. Some loved the looks and versatility of it, while many others could never get warmed up to it ( I had a 2012 CTS-V A6 Sedan and loved the looks of it). The Dodge Magnum never made it either and GM needs to be careful not to bring out an "Aztec" looking item that has recently come to market as a corvette offering.
As others have pointed out, there is the CTS-V and ATS-V out there that could be brought out in an SUV version to tap the Macan/Cayenne market if GM wanted to go in that direction.

Good feedback, just saw this:

I would rather see GM start a performance brand not named Corvette and offer SUV's and sports cars under that brand. The Corvette could sit under that brand as the premier sports car along with the Camaro, and purpose built sports SUV's.
But just offering some souped up SUV's and calling them Corvette SUV's would hurt the Corvette brand if GM did not execute it right. The Corvette has always been sononomous as a performance sports coupe. Keep it that way. No SUV. No 4 door sedans. No trucks.

Just what the world needs, another 4000 plus SUV zipping in and out of traffic with moronic drivers who think these behemoths can stop on an instant as they ride on my Corvette's *** on the interstate in the pouring rain! Really? I've seen more of these turkeys flipped over & stuck in the weeds than I ever care to count and who knows how many people hurt.

Trail Blazer SS was a neat SUV. Same 6.0 V8 engine as similar year Corvettes but downrated from 400 hp to 3905 hp (supposedly due to different exhaust manifolds).

Corvette can be to GM what AMG and M are to Mercedes and BMW. So if you want a Corvette brand, that would be the way to go. It would be a very limited 2-3 vehicle types.
And yes, the SUV would need to be in the line up. I suppose it's silly to ask a bunch of die hard Corvette enthusisats about it being a good idea. From a Marketing and sales standpoint it is a good idea. And I am not a proponent of such a thing but we are talking about money here and as silly as it may sound... IT WILL MAKE MONEY
