Long term or regular upgrade?
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

In reality, the last one, our Laguna Blue '16 Stingray truly was planned as the final Vette, but it ended up as the one to go back to Detroit on a buy back for the dreaded WARBLE issue.
Now that I'm retired, nearly 2 years, I can't keep swapping Vettes out on a whim.... It's a good thing I was able to swap out for minimal expense to get into a GS due to the buy back deal. Otherwise, I'd be really wanting to take the hit, as I'm a huge fan of the wide body style
I never ever expected to be in this position-- an owner of one Vette, much less two Vettes. To quote the snobbery of a Mercedes-Benz salesman I once met while doing non-automotive work on their sales floor--he was talking about a customer who'd brought in a vehicle for warranty work when he said,"he's one of the unwashed marginal players; he can barely afford a Benz and certainly not the routine factory maintenance. Otherwise, he's own who's under his Bz on the weekends."
That's me. I can't afford a Vette... at SocSec age, I wash all my own vehicles, I do all my own fluid changes, tire rotations, electrical additions, suspension work, anything that doesn't need more than sockets, screwdrivers, wrenches--you get the picture.
We had two (count'em- 2!!) Priuses in 2012. Almost at "retirement age", we were extremely concerned about gas costs/mileage and the politics of oil and bought the first one in 2005. Then retirement came; I'd driven countless c3 & c4 Corvettes in my previous career as an auto-painter and was never impressed--'under-powered and over-priced' was always my evaluation.
But then my wife was gonna retire and as a retirement 'gift' I traded the older Prius in for a used c5 z06 for her (that's another long story- I'd almost walked away Vettes again after driving a base c6); and while I was actually away buying the c5, she changed her mind and worked another 4 years. But that z06 converted us both; and as it approaches the end of its' warranty, I wanted her in another car that was as dependable with a warranty that I could drive that would handle like the c5 z06. And so here we are. Two Corvettes; no more "shiptboxes" as a friend called the Priuses. But I'm still a "marginal player"... there's no way we could afford the depreciation expenses involved with upgrading; I wish we could. Like that Benz salesman implied... we spent everything we had to get in these two Vettes.
and I gotta do the maintenance work myself (even though I don't trust a wash jockey or a dealership mechanic unless I absolutely have to)... I'm just one of the unwashed marginal players. I'll never be able to upgrade...
After having 5 cars in the driveway,I sold my 02Z and 03 S2K and got the C7.The Z51 is my 12th Vette.
It's 1/2 personal and 1/2 business car.
I plan to keep for at least 5 yrs.

I've traveled all over the United States (45 of the lower 48)..... and commonly take 1,500-mile plus trips....
The most miles I've put on a single car was 186,000 miles - it's living happily with it's second owner and now has more than 250,000 miles on it and looks great - the only "major" thing ever done with the car was a transmission replacement at around 200K.
My '15 C7 has more than 40,000 miles on it, but in fairness I split the DD duties with a 29-year-old 328 GTB Ferrari, putting about 10,000 miles a year on the F-car.
Buy'em, enjoy'em...
...to quote myself: "No one ever said on his death bed I wish I'd driven the Corvette less."

They paid cash on the spot and I gave them the keys.
