Bought a set of extended winglets for rear spoiler on a Grand Sport. I went to remove the stock units and found the double sided tape holds pretty well. Is there a good method to remove without pulling spoiler off the back of the car on accident or breaking the stock pieces. Maybe using a heat gun is required. I am fearful to try and pry as that may damage main body.
I would recommend heating it up, then use fishing line to cut through the tape. You could also use some goo gone to help loosen it. Just don't burn your paint with the heat gun.
I took my stage 1 winglets off a couple of days after I took delivery which was approximately 3 weeks after the car was built. Once I got all of the screws out, I started to pry gently with a flat head screw driver. Once you have a strip of tape started, the rest comes off quite easily without the need for the screw driver.
I have used this tape on other applications in the past and found it to be sufficient until the pieces are intentionally forced apart, then it gives. The tape is the week link.

Any input to remove without causing damage?
Ditto for heating it up first. Did the swap on my ZO6 a couple of weeks ago. After removing the screws, make sure you don't keep your heat gun/hair dryer in one place too long but sweep back and forth to get the entire winglet warmed up(do one side at a time). I didn't use any tools to pry it off for fear of scratching. Once the screws are removed, start from either end of the winglet and keep pulling gently by hand. Use more heat if necessary. Heat also makes the tape removal easier.
When reinstalling the screws be patient and make sure all the holes are aligned. Keep them loose until all the screws are in before tightening them all down to allow room for hole alignment.
The taller winglets look 100% better than the Stage 1 winglets IMO.
Good luck and hope that helps!

Funny you should ask, I did my install just today. first off, forget the fishing line, it just breaks. What I used instead was edge trimmer line. Take out all the screws and then pry the edge out a little and slip the edge trimer line in. Then in a "sawing" motion up and down and pulling along go as far as you can stopping every few inches to pry it off a little more. Worked like a charm.
I completed install today and used heat and fishing line. As Garret noted the fishing line did break a few times, but I just cut a new piece off the spool. I like the look, though a side effect is they do block your view from rear view mirror. This should be obvious, but I had not thought about it.
