Is it wrong or weird to go to the bash if I don't have a Corvette???
I have owned 3 over my 17 years on this forum, but sold the two I had about 3 years ago to pay tuition for my daughter's. They both graduate in May, one with a Masters and my younger daughter with a BS. They will both be debt free and both have new Mazda CX5's. Providing this was very important to me, so I sold my babies lol......
My plan is to get myself a new Vette end of this year beginning of 2018.......I'd be going in my 07 R Class Mercedes, with 150,000 miles. Basically a 10 year old minivan. I would most likely go alone, because even though the girls are on their own, my wife and I care for my 90 year old Mom who has Alzheimer's and lives with us. So going together would be very difficult, and my wife really doesn't care about cars.
So to recap, a Mid fifties guy going alone to the bash in a minivan.......just seems weird to me. Even though I have owned 3 and had at least one for over 15 years, I feel like a wannabe phony going Vetteless!!
Go and enjoy yourself and check out all the stuff on hand. You can probably park in the back with all us other mortals or folks that have theirs in the shop.
Since a new '18's in the future here's a fabulous opportunity to kick tires, sit in all trim lines & schmooze w/ the people who build 'em.
Great way to kill time, even for a Ford guy.
Besides, bet you know more re Corvettes than GM's whiz kids anyway. Don't deny 'em a chance to learn something.
Go, enjoy and tell us about it. I've shown up in a foreign car and no one cared one way or the other. (they just figgered I couldn't afford a Corvette)
If you're able to attend, by all means do it regardless of what you'll be driving. FWIW, though I've owned Corvettes the entire 11 years I've been going to the museum I've always driven there from the Nashville airport in a rental car. As much as I'd like to drive my Stingray, I simply can't take that much time off. The only part that might be tough for you is being around all of these beautiful Corvettes, talking with their owners, and rubbing elbows with the Corvette brass from GM knowing that you won't have a Corvette to go home to. That would be unbearable for me! The only other thing to be aware of is that during the bash only Corvettes are allowed in the museum's parking lot. "Metal cars" as they're referred to are forced to park on the lawn across the street from the museum. Go figure!
The fact that you're considering buying a 2018 gives you another reason to attend. You'll get all of the info on the '18s and will get to see pre-production ones in person. This could be especially valuable if you wind up ordering a new-for-'18 color.
My wife and I are attending but she has a pretty limited attention span at these events. My point is that for most of our time there I'll be solo. If you go we should meet and spend some time hanging out together. Hope you can make it!

Will I be seeing you there this year, Bill?

GM would probably want to see you at the bash instead of someone who just purchased a new Corvette 3 months ago. You are more likely to purchase a new Corvette in the near future(and that is GM's goal) then someone who has only made a couple of payments(and most likely upside down) on their three month old Corvette. GM already has their money. They are now looking for your money.
In reading some of the responses, it strikes me that it should be remembered that this event is put on by the NCM, not GM. Sure, GM supports it by sending their top Corvette brass but this is the museum's event. One of the very cool things about it is that no one from GM is trying to sell Corvettes. There are always some outside vendors and the Museum Store but that's about it.

OP sounds like he has a grasp of his finances. Fairly rude post with a lot of assumptions.
IN 2014 was thinking about getting another AMG!! Was invited to drive the new Corvette at a race track in NJ. Went in my AMG Drove the Corvette at speed 140 plus Came home on a Quest to get a FINE Corvette and ended up with a 2015 Atlantic Edition 1 of 17 made. GO GO GO and you too WILL come home with something interesting eventually.

I went to the Bash in 2015 and 2016. The first time in a rental Mustang, the second in my buddies BMW 650. The only person that cares what you drive there is you. Placed an order on the way home from the 2016 gig.
Both experiences were awesome. 2015 was about the Z, 2016 the GS. I think 2017 will be about new paint. Prolly too early for the ZR1, IF Bigfoot exists. But if it is your first time won't matter anyway.
First thing I did was look at your sig to see where you're from. Hell, I would have loved to pick you up on the way in the Z and go together! But if I go I'm coming from the north.
The best part is the Friday 9am session when they talk about the past year and what is yet to come. As a potential buyer it is the best part. Go in 15 minutes early and get a seat in the first few rows. Enjoy and thank me later.
