Look up the size and capacity of the OEM batteries on the ACDelco website and see if they are the same.

I know the C7 battery is a 48PG because I just bought one. I think the c6 battery is a different case size.

Nope! The C7 has a large power board on the positive terminal. The replacement battery must have recessed terminals to fit. The Optima does not.

However I replace my OEM battery with an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Diehard (that is what an Optima is albeit with spiral would plates.) Batteries are only made by a few companies like Johnson Controls. They may make the Diehard and I saw an AGM battery at AutoZone that looked similar.

This is a PDF of my install: http://netwelding.com/Battery_Issues.pdf

One thing to pay attention to is my suggestion about removing the carpet to access the battery (for whatever reason, jump start etc.) If you don't pop the clips from the right side plastic wheel well cover, good chance of ripping that carpet corner! It has an unbound edge under the wheel well cover. Been posts of a carpet ripping even at a dealer!

That is not suggested in the Owner's Manual but easy to do, you can pry loose with your fingers (or at least I could in my 2014.) A trim tool (or paint scraper) 2 to 3 inches up from the carpet will also work. Only the rear clip is necessary. It pops back on with the side of your hand. It's not like the strong clips that hold trim. FWIW

That's a good point about removing the wheel cover. Our carpet started to rip when I peeled it back to install the tow hook on the battery cover.

The more you can get out of the way, the easier the job is.
I went one step further and removed the whole trim piece, and instead of just bending the wires to set the fuse box to the side, I removed all the wires and removed it too.
This photo will also show you where the clips are.
The carpet is so stiff the edge will actually scratch the plastic trim, so I slipped plastic shopping bags between the carpet and rear panel before pulling the carpet up.

Even with everything out of the way, the battery still did not lift straight up and out. I had to turn it almost straight up on its end to get it out. Also found it easier to control by standing beside the passenger fender instead of trying to removed it to the rear over the bumper and spoiler.

By the way, I would not mess with the Optima... Just get the ACDelco Professional grade Gold battery with a 42 month FREE replacement when the time comes... It comes from GM with ACDelco Silver 30 month battery.
