Traditional radio, he opines, “has it all wrong.” Proprietary content, which is a station’s lifeblood, should not be cut, advises Leykis. “They are spending money on HD Radio, which is a total bomb...
I was curious what made it different from the 17 radio, seems difference would not mean that much to me I mostly use IPhone library or Pandora for music .
Does HD radio allow you to pause and rewind live broadcasts similar to a DVR? Not that I care about such features in a vette, just curious.
No. It sounds clearer. Also, some stations broadcast sub-channels in HD so you can get alternates. HD is nice but I stopped listening to the radio years ago so can't say I feel like I am missing out not having it.
First I heard HD is coming back. That is very good news. The advantage is the sub-channels that are available.
Also, the Navigation can take advantage of live traffic updates on HD sub-channels. I have that feature in my 2017 Honda Ridgeline and it works very well. Much better than the XM Traffic with coverage for far more streets than just the Interstates. And it is real time.
The Honda has a Garmin Navigation.
The Honda Navigation provides free updates for 5 years. The updates are done online by creating the new database on a laptop and loading with a USB stick. Downside is the updates are not much more timely than the purchased updates from GM...but they are free so you can try them and hope for the best.
Perhaps the return of HD will bring other benefits.

AA has real time traffic from Google and Waze (Google uses Waze data plus well will be with us soon) and much more intelligent re-routing than the factory Nav.

Agreed, however the factory Nav could be better using real time traffic from HD sub-channels. My Honda does it quite impressively.
I had HD radio on my 2014 and do not miss it at all on my 2016. I am not close to the HD stations and the radio would constantly cut in and out of HD on some channels and it was very annoying.
If you listen to your iPhone or ipod, HD makes little or no difference. FM is where is shines when reception is good, if not it becomes annoying when it keeps on going on and off. At least that was the case in my dd.
