Default My car was rejected by the state of Massachusetts

80 beautiful degrees in Central Mass today so had booked an oil and filter change and a 4-wheel alignment. Whilst at the dealer I noticed they do state inspections so I told them to go ahead and do it. I now sport an awful R on my windshield

It failed emissions - I forgot that since the car was sitting for the winter that I needed to put more miles on it before having it tested. So, those of you just getting your car out into warm weather, run 100+ miles on it before having it tested.

On a side note, I had the car set up with a non-Z51 alignment as I don't plan on tracking it. Will this alignment slow down my spirited road cornering antics?

Only thing slowed will be trips to tire store, unless you plan Road America it'll corner fine.
Even read here recently C6 Pfadt Street spec works nicely on C7.

run 100+ miles on it before having it tested... I've never heard that before, but where I live, they don't do inspections.

Yes, it's for the various tests they do. Specifically failed or I should say "Not Ready": Evaporative System Monitor and O2 Sensor Monitor.
They say the vehicle will need to be driven in both city and highway conditions to reset its computer so it will e ready for its emissions re-test. Of course I live in a state that:

Requires a front plate
Disallows the use of long tube headers
Not allowed to use darkened side lights
No more than 35% tint
and probably lots more!

You must have had the battery disconnected or drained such that the computer reset itself; otherwise, that doesn't happen from just letting the car sit.

I'm in a line of work that requires me to be licensed by both CA and Mass. There is a dreaded annual recertification process with both where I waste most of my day(if not 2 or 3 days) being treated like trash on the phone by some uneducated, lazy moron who feels powerful because they are a state employee. Why people continue to live in these 2 Soviet states baffles me.
Good luck OP, should be fine after you drive it a bit.

Hmmmm, although it's on the "official" battery tender all winter, I did disconnect the battery while I took the seats out to convert to competition seat backs. Perhaps that's what caused it. I'd actually forgotten about that! Good catch.

There's you answer. Disconnecting the battery will erase the codes stored in the computer and the computer is designed to indicate to the code reader that it was reset. Driving the car for 50 to 100 miles lets the computer reset. While it turned out to be a PITA in your case, this feature is good to know about when buying a used car. Unscrupulous sellers would simply clear the codes and stick you with a car that has CEL issues. Now you can bring your code reader and see if the computer was wiped clean....

Tried last year but couldn't sell our home. Wife is off to check a house in NC over the weekend so perhaps we'll try again. Would love to say goodbye to cold winters that last so long.

Come on down to NC! It's been spring here for a while now. Already been through the pollen stage for the year. I actually have the ac running in my house right now as it's been in the 80's for the last few days.

This is one of the only good reasons for living in California. No Smog test or inspections on new cars for 6 years!

AZ is 5 years. 17 bucks and you're out in 15 minutes. I have nothing against testing for emissions as long as it's not too much a PITA. Yes, run for a tank a gas. Refill with a top tier (Costco) and go for a retest.

After CarMax trucked a used C5 from Florida to Virginia for me we were 'forced' to drive it around the block a couple of times before it would pass VA emissions testing, even though the car was going to live in Maryland, which didn't require emissions testing. Now I'm in Tennessee with no inspection, no emissions testing, no front plate, close proximity to the museum, and some fun roads. Plus I'm retired. Life is good!

No smog test unless you bring in a perfectly good new car from an out of state dealer
Actually I've never heard of car inspections in CA. Is that a new thing?

Six years and I don't regret moving...so much B.S..
But then again here I am in Florida and they don't even do
a safety check. So there goes the Datsun B210 pickup down 75
with bad tires....bad tie rods ends and more....I travel the back roads.

Wife left this morning to check a few properties out. Hey, any members here re-locating to the Boston area? Perhaps you would like a very nice house on a pond with an easy commute? House exchange? Perhaps even a Vette exchange, ha, ha!
