When I jump on it....it sticks in a lower gear (not sure which one) and will only go into drive when I step off the gas or shift into neutral and then drive. Getting to be real PITA.
Normal, you are triggering PAS/PAL (performance algorithm shift/performance algorithm liftfoot) mode which temporarily keeps the transmission in a lower gear after a "spirited" maneuver because the program assumes you will continue this type of driving. It will return to a normal gear and standard operation after a few seconds of non-spirited driving.
If you want it to shift up without waiting use the paddles but it is doing what it was programmed to do. It can be a little unnerving when you first experience. My first GM with the programming was my 2008 Cadillac CTS and shortly after break-in was completely I did a fast merge onto the interstate and it stayed in a lower gear for a few seconds. Once you get used to it you will appreciate the additional performance it brings; the program is doing exactly what an experienced manual transmission driver would do when going through a series of aggressive/spirited maneuvers.
