Default First impressions

Some first impressions.
The weather finally broke here in Boston and I got a chance to take out my 17 GS convertible.
The car feels a lot more refined than my 15 Z51.
7 speed a lot smoother and easier to shift .
Ride quality better /road noise much less .
Engine noise less
Fit and finish improved over my 15
Doors close much better.
Car still has orange peel but in white much less noticeable than my NRB that I had sanded .
This one looks good enough to leave alone.
Radio sounds better .
All in all I see a big improvement over my last one.
Glad I bought it !

My 14 Z51 is miffed I read your post - she feels like royalty the way I treat her.

Did not think there would be that much difference in the 2 years, but in any case you are happy and congratulations on your new ride.

Enjoy your new ride-the GS is a looker! I have no issues with my 15-sounds like you had a bad one.

Of my 3 Vettes, the doors on my 2016 shut noticeably harder than the others.

Congrats. Stunning. Brand new cars are and will always feed different. A lot of that changes after miles. I do not believe Radio is any different, speakers, etc. OP will always be part of the paint process, worse on composite panels. It is what it is. FYI.. I owned a 2013 GS NRB, and now 2106 Stingray Z51 Blade Silver. Door, panel fit process is still the same, again new car.

That all said, enjoy the GS, she is a beauty...!!!

Compared to my 2015 non-Z51 my new GS feels more nibble with no body roll at all, but ride is about the same. Perhaps marginally firmer but no less comfortable.

Engine noise less
NPP isn't quite as throaty, but still sounds great.

Paint may be a bit better, less OP. No difference in door feel. I'd give both cars an A-.

This one looks good enough to leave alone.
Mostly, but leaving a car or motorcycle alone just isn't in my DNA. E.g., so far I've transferred GM splash guards, Lloyd's mats, aftermarket cargo net, stay-in jacking pucks, and made a few more minor changes.

Radio sounds better .
Can't tell the difference, but my ears suck.

All in all I see a big improvement over my last one.

Same here, especially since this car has an M7. I am now a whole person, or at least feel like one. The A8 in the last car just didn't float my boat, but that's all I'll say knowing I could write a book on the subject.

From a statistical standpoint, I don't think there's any difference at all in build, paint, or overall quality from 14-17. In fact, I think the 14s ended up with the highest initial quality ratings, but I don't put much stock in those either. Comparing one MY car to another MY car is just comparing 2 data points out of close to 120K cars built by now.

The same paint, and assembly line processes have been in place since C7 inception. Any differences are just assembly variability from car to car, or in other words, luck of the draw.

In 2017 the cars received changes to the PCM. It is a new board or something and has been updated. Quicker and more responsive maybe?

My going from a 2014 to 2017 Stingray Convertible is really surprising. The car's are virtually exactly the same, option wise, but the 2017 improvements/upgrades are amazing. My favorite is the front camera system, that alone was the reason to purchase a 2017. The 2017's clutch is smoother and the exhaust surprisingly is louder. The things I miss are HD radio and the song title/artist display on the navigation map. The paint job on the 2017 (Admiral Blue) is nicer. I am happy.

No, sorry, it's just your imagination on the clutch and exhaust, but one's imagination can be very powerful, and newer is almost always perceived by most as better. The parts are exactly the same.

As for paint, there were better and worse 14s just as there are better and worse 17s. They were painted the same way in the same facility. There are just as many people moaning about how bad the 17 paint jobs are as there were in 2014. As I said above, it's just the luck of the draw.

The new paint shop will be fully on line at some point this fall. We'll see how that goes.
