I was on my way shopping driving in Sport mode using the paddles and I was doing about 50 in 7th gear and I wanted to see how low the RPMs would drop if I put it into 8th gear (Usually I drive locally in 4th or 5th).
To my surprise the message on the dash said "Shift denied" or something to that effect. So I guess you can't go into 8th gear below 50 MPH or so.....interesting. I guess it would labor too much. Never had that problem on my 6 speed C7.

I think its due to the Active Rev matching. New Technology
The automatic won't allow you to select either too low or too high of a gear for the current operating conditions thus protecting the engine/drivetrain from misuse/mistake.

I consider this anti-lugging protection . . . I see this off and on when I am not thinking about my shifts and try to upshift at too low of RPM. I have never had a downshift denied. (FYI, if you haven't noticed yet, if you hold down the downshift lever it drops as many gears as is safe. Fun for passing!)
