Congrats. I am in the same boat. I have a 600, 750, and 1000. Love them all, but for every day cruising, road trips etc. I think I should trade the GS on a Z06. I am still really liking the convenience of the auto over the manual. I wouldn't mind talking to you some time if I get more serious about trading.

I had the GS A8 and now have the Z06 M7.
For commuting in stop and go traffic I LOVED the A8.
For quick lane change, drop gear and go, I LOVED the A8.
A8 was definitely faster.
But the M7 is more fun.
A lot of people complain about the A8 saying its crap. I call BS.
Sure the A8 shifts slow when you're put putting along, but who cares, you're put putting along... When you are driving it hard, it shifts VERY FAST, up shifts and down shifts. WAAY faster than I can do with a manual. In fact, when I'm on it, and I up shift, it goes BANG (literally an awesome exhaust BANG -- I love it) and its lightening fast.
The M7 is more fun.
Don't know how else to put it.
I honestly wish I could have both in one car and flip a switch between M7 and A8.
One more thing to consider.
If you read the Ask Tadge section here, you'll see the 2017 Z06 M7 got way better cooling upgrades than the A8. If that matters to you. I track once a year so it doesn't really matter to me but still useful info.

Nice swap you made. Enjoy that new Z06.

Hey thanks for all the info. Did you have the M6 in your ZL1. If you did, how does the M7 compare to M6? I still have my 13 ZL1 with M6. I find the drive train to be a little sloppy. Is the Z06 the same?
Its probably too early to know, but any thoughts on mpg difference from GS to Z06?
How about insurance cost?

I did have the M6 in the ZL1. I had the 2015 and I don't know if there was any difference between the 2013 and 2015, but it felt like a great transmission to me. The ZL1 did have a little bucking at low RPM when stuck in commuter traffic but a bit of clutch helps. I wouldn't have described my ZL1 as sloppy.
In any case, the M7 in the Z06 feels phenomenal. I was worried about that silly 7th gear getting in the way but you don't notice it at all. 1-6 feels exactly as they should, I never hit the wrong gear by accident. 7th gear is miles over to the right, its very very deliberate to hit 7th instead of 5th.
Gas mileage. Well... So far... GS was better
I always keep the instant fuel economy display on my GS and Z06 and I tend to see a lot of 8s and 10s and 12s with the Z06 where I'd see a lot of 12s and 15s on the GS. But I did notice while in 7th gear on the freeway, I seem to get about 35mpg at 75mph in the Z06.

Good questions.

I know most people aren't worried about mileage, but if cruising on a highway trip at 80 mph and the higher HP car gets better mileage I would rather have the higher HP car. I think that could be the case here because of the higher gearing of the Z06. It appears you might be getting better highway mpg. At 75 in the GS I get around 25.

Yeah, sloppy probably isn't the right description. There is some slack or looseness in the trans or driveline mostly noticeable when loading and unloading in slow driving situations. This is something I don't notice in auto trans. Not a big deal, but I wondered if things were different with the rear trans and torque tube arrangement.

1-6 not so much.
What you're describing about the transmission, loading and unloading during slow driving is what I called bucking at slow speeds. My feeling was that the ZL1 was pretty good because my previous car (2013 Shelby GT500) was very bad. So far the Z06 feels pretty smooth, smoother than the ZL1 did.

Here is another question for you. How much different does the Z07 suspension feel over the GS? Any harsher?

This car feels more planted and grippier without a doubt. But how much is attributed to the additional weight of the Z06 or the Sport Cup 2 tires?
There's a bit more weight on hard turn-in probably due to the weight of the supercharger up front.
Actual road feel has a noticeable difference, slightly more vibration. I actually commented on it to my wife. Z06+Z07 Touring feels half way between GS Touring and Sport. Z06+Z07 Sport feels half way between GS Sport and Track.
With the GS I generally drove it in Sport and occasionally Touring or Track. With the Z06+Z07 I find I'm very happy with Touring but still drive in Sport "just because"
What I didn't expect when switching from GS to Z06+Z07 was the steering feel. Seems there's considerably more good feedback which I imagine is a combination of the Z07 bits + Sport Cup 2s.
I'm only at 350 miles but decided to give it a little half-throttle blip, this car is just ridiculous.
Even though I'm breaking it in I've not gone easy on the twisties (Sharp Park Rd is great if you're in SF Bay Area). Same road with the GS I was not confidant going beyond 0.9g on the street, 0.9g was the max I felt "safe". With the Z06+Z07 after proper warming up -- I've already hit 1.1g but am too afraid to go beyond that on the street (potential pebbles n such, though I always do a pre-run at 0.75g before going again at 1.1g to flush out any gravel bits etc). EDIT: I should add, while its hard to claim I'm "safe" on the street hitting 1.1g, please be aware I'm always super cautious -- never hard around blind turns, I always do pre-runs and warm up, I aim for hours that my favorite roads are generally empty.
All things considered, there's no comparison between the two cars. Power has had nothing to do with it since I'm still babying it (break-in), so I imagine most of this is due to Z07. My conclusion is that the Z07 package is the $#!T if you actually track your car or drive it like a lunatic on the back roads.
BTW - the carbon ceramic breaks are gorgeous.

Good stuff. Thanks for the detailed comparison.
