Was browsing some FS ads from C5-7 sec the black car owners feel bad for..seemed the more detailed they were the worse they looked; Even some red, blue cars from 10 ft away still visible.
A new Hyundai has a better finish, not exaggerating
This has been discussed ad nauseum here. GM is building a new paint facility at Bowling Green. It will go online after the initial 2018 production begins (there is going to be a 2-3 month plant shutdown).

Come on GM youre capable whats the deal?
I think a big part of the problem is the composite panels that Corvette uses. They are more difficult to paint and more prone to orange peel. FYI Chevy is closing down the Corvette plant in KY for several months and is opening a whole new paint shop using new processes and technology which might/should help reduce orange peel. Eliminating it completely is probably not going to happen.
There are things you can do in terms or paint correction to reduce orange peel, but I have come to the conclusion that I can live with it since the car has so many other pros. No other car I have driven touches the C7 in terms of price to performance and looks.

Anyone taking bets on whether the new paint shop will result in the elimination (or substantial reduction) of OP?

I am sure that is one of their goals. Eliminating completely seems very unlikely as you can find orange peel on just about any car on the market including from luxury brands. Have personally owned BMW's that have had it.
I'm willing to bet that a 450 million plant addition with high tech robots, new paint processes,'and better ovens, etc, will remedy the problem of orange peel. It might not eliminate it 100%. I'm waiting to see some cars painted in the new facility before ordering one. Deon't forget the 250 million assembly line upgrade also going in. 700 million + should result in a higher quality car.
