2014 C7 recall question?

2014 C7 recall question?
Did anyone else ever get a recall on the 2014 stingray suspension failures? Regarding the low quality and insufficient welds; rear shock absorbers would crack and fail?
I'm asking because my husband was in a crash (not speeding, no drugs or drinking) when the vette at about 45 mps (.3 miles from house) hit a culvert and flipped. It smashed to pieces (carbon fiber, we understand that part) but what was discovered was that the welds were not sufficient, in length or strength so that the entire suspension/chassis was in pieces everywhere.
We never got the recall that apparently went out in August of 2014.
Did anyone get one? The car was never crash or rollover tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. We didn't know this when we bough the car. And, it was his dream car.

I hope he's OK.
IIRC the recall for bad shock welds was for a very few cars. My VIN was not included. Other recalls were for the anti siphon grid, seat belt software, and something to do with the parking brake.
Even though the NHTSA does not crash test all car models, the manufacturers must assure that their vehicles are in compliance.

The recall reads like the bad welds were on the shocks, not the vehicle frame.

Have never seen anything about poor chassis welds. Most of the welds between the large structural aluminum members are made by MIG welding robots. You can see that system working in some of the C7 video's of Bowling Green production.

My 2014 was recalled and I took it to my dealer. It was only for certain VIN numbers and they replaced the shocks. They showed me the shocks and said they looked okay but GM wasn't taking any chances.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all your responses. I really appreciate being around other Vette owners. It makes me feel like I'm with people like my husband. Our Vin was in the recall but I didn't know until after the crash. We never got one from our dealer or GM. GM did come to NC about 6-7 mons after the crash and the engineer took about 2 hours to measure the welds and suspension, chassis. It was really a strange, no-talking- kind of experience. My husband never heard back from them. I'm not being adversarial, I'm just so disappointed, and mostly sad for my husband. Our step son in law died in the crash. There was no speeding, no drinking or drugs. My husband only ran the car on tracks like VIR or in KY to race. He was very careful. He's 55 and very familiar with the dangers. This crash was horrendous. He saw the deficiencies after the crash. Like most of you guys, he knows his cars. This was his dream car after years and years of hard work he gave himself a gift. He was so happy! And now, it's just a nightmare. The death of someone we loved, and my husband's injuries including the concussion (they found him in the road), have caused PTSD and it's pretty awful. I am posting here only because I hope that even if you didn't get a recall (like us), that everyone is careful. The deficiencies are not noticeable obviously, unless the car is taken apart. But that GM came here to do the measurements and then they never got back to us. I've watched a few 2014 crashes on youtube - it's so hard to watch - my husband cannot. And, it's hard to know if any of the bad ones are because of the deficient welds. I hope not. I was told by an ex- car dealer that sometimes not everyone is notified. I asked why, and he said because of the reputation. I was kind of floored and sad. So, I just wanted to say that be careful, I don't know what else to say. I'm getting my husband help with what he has now PTSD from the concussion and the death of our family member. That his adoration of the Vette and being able to get one - turned into this - is so devastating to him and watching it, is painful and heartbreaking. Just be careful guys and gals. He wasn't speeding, no drinking or driving, or other cars involved. He only raced on the VIR track or in KY.
Thank you all for being so kind and all your nice comments. I'm just so bewildered at GM. But I have my hands full just trying to find my husband again inside that body and mind that seems to have changed so much. Again, thank you all for taking the time to respond to me. It made me feel not so alone. Take care, and I like this forum - it's very welcoming and helpful, right now just to know you're out there. Stay safe and thanks - Cherc7wife
