Soundproof & vibration alternative
Here is another easy and inexpensive "soundproofing" alternative that I achieved spectacular results with, for those who just want to hear their exhaust. I research the heck out of everything. After talking to the sound insulation tech about why a fiberglass car is very different from non-fiberglass cars, I ordered 1/8" thick Mass Loaded Vinyl 48"W with 1/4" Closed Cell Foam backing 48"W @ $15.93 per linear foot (4' wide - 8' long). I cut a piece with shears to fit the cargo area (foam side down I was told), placed a Weathertech cargo mat on top of it, cut a piece to fit under each floor mat, and then using instructions I found on this forum, moved the seats forward then lifted up the carpet behind the seats and slid a 9" wide and 5" wide (prob 18" high) pieces up under the carpet against the rear wall (foam side against the wall) behind each of the the seats. RESULT: the car is now as quiet as my Lexus LS - just not as smooth riding. All I hear is my NPP exhaust. Cost was $174 for material & shipping. Took about 45 minutes to do everything. Since this stuff is only 3/8 thick, its undetectable. Highly recommended to anyone that wants a quieter ride. Is it Ok to identify the source of the material on this forum?

Can you provide a source for this material? Thanks.

Not sure ...is there a huge savings between this material and "block it" stuff??

Well, I doubt that. But still, thanks for sharing.
I did a project like this on my C6, pulling out all of the carpet and trim in the hatch to put down a two layer sound absorbing mat, which was a huge PITA and did make a difference, but the car never became anything close to a luxury car's quiet.
I wish we all had DB meters to accurately measure before and after results.
BTW, these cars are no longer made of fiberglass.

Curious as to what vette u have, base stingray, Z51, GS, or Z06. I had a base 16 stingray and it was pretty quiet and now have a 17 GS and with those big tires it is much noisier not to mention the ride is pretty harsh. I may just give this a try. Thanks for sharing
