Default 500 mile service

Just dropped the car off for my 500 (522) mile service. They took care of one minor issue on the spot before I even left. Since day 1, when idling I can hear, what appears to be a fan motor somewhere on the right side of the dash. It's rhythmic with the engine RPMs but puzzling nonetheless. Turns out it was one of the pvc hoses vibrating against something near the firewall. The tech knew right away what it was and reseated the hose, problem solved.

Moving on, I decided to wait to have the rear left panel removed and reseated to correct the misalignment issue. He said it would take too long and I didn't want to leave the car there overnight so I asked him to make an entry in the record so I can bring it back at a later date if I decide to fix it at all. Not sure I want them ripping the rear end off to fix a small gap. See pictures....

I took some I-Phone pics while waiting for the courtesy vehicle and discovered some things I like and some I don't. Just my opinion....

They keep most of the Corvettes outside.

A few more...

GS like mine but with silver wheels. Originally what I wanted but now that I see them I like my black wheels better.

And a few more...

Blade Silver with the Twilight Blue interior. Pretty nice actually.

Here's what I don't like. I finally had the opportunity to touch and feel the vinyl stripes and I don't like them. I want to do the hash marks and red stripe down the middle but now that I've witnessed the vinyl I may have them painted on instead, or just leave the car solid Admiral Blue and forget stripes.

Nice CE but again, vinyl stripes. Not a fan, and no offense to those that have them.

ZL1....$69,580....menacing looking for sure....

Love the wheels on the ZL1....black chrome....I'd put those on my GS....

My old favorite....Torch Red GS....

What dealership is that?

Think I figured it out. Earnhardt in Chandler, correct?

Earnhardt Chevy in Chandler, AZ. It used to be Thorobred until Earnhardt took it over about a year ago. I've been using their service department for 10+ years for my 2007, 2014 and now 2017. Good service. Not so good sales department.

one of the reasons I like the service department is because they use roll on lifts which don't require jacking puck and don't damage the underside of the car or the skirts.

That's a collector's edition I hadn't identified yet, thanks for posting. It's #0550.

How did you figure out that it's #0550?

Same way I've been doing it with all the other ones. I've been scouring the dealer sites while they are still there. The VIN's are unique on the Collector's Edition. Last four digits are what number it is in the series.

A little detective work but I'm getting data on as many cars as I can before they leave the dealer lot as once they do we'll probably never know unless someone has the ability to sit down at the archives and go through it.

I have a couple other sources to fill in some gaps, but most of the 673 that have been identified so far have been through Internet detective work :-)

I'm in the minority here but in general I'm not a fan of the hash marks or stripes on the GS. For two reasons, actually. One is the vinyl/decal nature. If they were painted that would be OK but the decals just looks cheap to me. Two, I think the Grand Sport has enough accents with the aero kit, ducts, etc. The stripes and hash marks border on making it too busy.

Clearly a personal choice but I would leave that beautiful admiral blue alone if I were you. I ordered my arctic white clean--no hash marks or stripes.

People complain that it is a decal, but the good thing about that is that it is more of a choice then. You can order of course without the decals. But you can also get the heritage package and if you don't like them, take them off.

If they were painted, you'd be stuck and have to take it with everything else.

Dealer just called to let me know the car is ready. Oil change complete and they checked the differential fluid and it was full and clear....no sludge whatsoever. Good news. They hand washed it and I should be good to go as soon as the courtesy driver comes to pick me up. I will wait 5-10 minutes after I get home to check the oil level. Keeping my fingers crossed but I'm confident it will be ok since I spoke directly to the tech about the proper procedure for filling.

I would start it up while you're there, get it to temperature and then wait the 5-10 minutes and check it while you're still there. If they have it too full, have them fix it before you leave.

Or even tell them ahead of time that you'll be doing that, they can have it already up to temp so you don't have to worry about it!

Not a bad idea. I think I'll do that.

Default Just not sure....

So I started the car at the dealer and got it up to temperature, shut it off, waited 10 minutes and when I checked the oil it appeared to be just at the top of the hash mark, which is where it was from the factory.

On the drive home I monitored the oil pressure and it appeared to be slightly above where it was during the first 522 miles. At idle it was about 25 and at 3,500 - 4,000 RPMs it went up to a bit more than 40. I don't recall it going quite that high before the oil change, but I could be mistaken since I drove it very conservatively and rarely hit 4,000 RPMs.

When I got home, I turned the car off, waited 10 minutes, and checked it again. Same reading, just at the top of the hash mark. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was supposed to be a little below the top of the hash mark on the dipstick?

I'm going to monitor it closely over the next few days but I'm not sure how I would be able to tell if it is burping because of overfill. What exactly would I look for?

Overall, they did a great job. The hand wash came out great. Unfortunately, it's windy in AZ today and there's a ton of blowing dust so it was covered in dust after my 5 mile ride home. The joys of living in the desert....

Thanks for listening to all my rants. Any constructive advice is most welcome. Can't wait to do a freeway launch with it now that I'm past the danger zone....

Mine has been sitting at the top hash mark of the dipstick since my 500 mile, no issue. I'd prefer it to be a little closer to mid way but I left it alone.
