The left front tore, then the middle dam ripped and I gave up and took what was left of all three off.....the 2010 just dragged, the 2013 same thing, but the 2016 only lasted 9 months.
I don't miss the sound effects as it they drug over man hole covers, etc.
Getting to your question, I believe you must be rubbing or hitting something you may not be aware of. That would be one heck of a coincidence to have two of those fail.

Well of course you can tear them up if you continue to drag them on everything without being a little careful of how you enter driveways, parking lots, approach parking stops, etc.
I have a 2014 and I very rarely hear them touch the pavement, but I am always aware of where I can go with a low clearance car.
If you are going to continue to drive without being more aware of them until they are shredded, you might as well take them off.
My passenger side one is removing itself due to the scraping during my turning exits from my driveway. I tried glueing the loose section (outboard side) back but that was a temporary fix. I only notice it when I'm washing and thereby focusing on that area. Otherwise I don't notice and I doubt others do.

I have had my 2016 for 13 months and have never came closer than 6 inches to a curb or concrete parking block. Every single time I park I always use the front view camera. My friend, who owns a 2005 vette, installed front and back cameras.
