Default Nav frustration

Using my Navigation for the first time on a trip over the weekend, I had two questions that I couldn't find an answer to in the manual. Hoping I can get some help here.

1) How do you get the display to show the city name instead of just the hiway numbers? Going thru some fairly large cities, no name ever appeared on the screen. Had to use my iphone a couple of times to figure out where the heck I was.

2) This one really frustrated me. I prefer using the nav screen with the zoom in and out features showing. However, they only stay on the screen for a couple of minutes and the screen defaults to a full map with no zoom. To get the zoom again, I had to either use the back button or hit the home button, then press the nav button on the screen to get the the temporary zoom feature again. A real pain in the butt while driving in traffic.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Doug

IIRC, if you simply tap the nav screen those zoom buttons will appear.

I think if you zoom out serveral times, when the scale gets large enough, the city is displayed.

Or perhaps thee programmers figure you spotted either the "welcome to BFE" or "BFE next x exits" sign as you entered town

I don't recall identifying cities to be an issue with mine but the level of information displayed depends upon your zoom level and if you are zoomed into a level to provide detailed street view it probably assumes you know the city. Zooming out some should provide the city/village identification.

This is my major complaint with trying to display a lot of map data on a limited size screen. It is hard to get the right ratio between specific detail and general overview forcing you to constantly zoom in and out. I have factory nav in my 2016 Z06 and 2014 ATS and I like them OK and I also use my iPhone for navigation at times but I also find that at times my spiral bound Rand atlas is very nice. A couple of years ago I got into a situation on a trip where a combination of scheduled construction and two major accidents effectively closed the usual routes heading south from Indiana/Ohio towards Lexington KY at the river and the nav system wasn't nearly as useful as my atlas at that point in plotting a reasonable route that got me around both the planned and unplanned traffic backup.
