Default Route 66

We started out last Thursday afternoon and it rained all through IL, MO. and part of OK. This morning it was beautiful and the trip is now really fun. Stopped at the U-Drop Inn today.

Nope, but my dad pretended they did... Of course, he's on the wrong side of the car as well... :-)

We happened to stop there at night time. Forgot a piece for my tripod and had to take the picture with the camera sitting on a suit case, but it came out great still!

Some may or may not know this, but this place was the inspiration for the Ramone's in the movie Cars.....

How fast has everyone driven while on Route 66(the section that goes through Mexico).? I did 145 but the old two lane was just too rough, so I shut it down.

I hope so, Tom. Just about to hit 3500 miles.

We're driving about 6 hours a day. Mileage varies due to how many stops we want to make. We'ii be at the Blue Swallow tomorrow night.

Where does Rt 66 go through Mexico? None of my maps or the 5 books I have on Rt 66 mention Mexico.

Going from NCM to California, I tried to keep our daily mileage under 400, so we'd have time to stop for lunch and sightseeing. The only exception was from Memphis to Oklahoma City with a stop at Bale Chevrolet in Little Rock. That day was 500 miles, and got a bit long with the oil change in the middle of it. Main reason for the extra distance was the fact that there was really nowhere to stop between Little Rock and OK city, as far as I could figure out. However, you'll head Northeast before then, so not an issue.

If you're staying at the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, the Muellers are wonderful hosts. Cameron even moved their Packard car so my GS could "sleep" under the neon sign the night we stayed there. They also did a campfire and S'mores for all the guests. Possibly the best night's stay we had on our trip. Del's Restaurant was great for dinner, and Kix on 66 was great for breakfast; both are within walking distance of the Blue Swallow.
