Here's what I've got so far. I temporarily put the V1 on the passenger side visor. I am using the SAVVY to power it and have also added the Bluetooth module and Concealed display.

I run the V1 in dark mode and mounted the Concealed display on the driver armrest. It give it easy access for the mute button and I can see it easily at a glance. From outside the car you really have to lean over the window and look down to see it. Keeps everything relatively out of sight from an officers perspective. I think it is a good start for now.

V1 is my suggestion. Had 2 of them for 10 years, just upgraded one and sending the other soon. Big difference with the upgrade. Of course ANY detector is better thsn none. Main line of defense is eyes up scanning. Had a Fuzzbuster II, originally Escort, original Passport and Escort 8500. When Mike Valentine left Escort and started Valentine Research, I switched and not looking back. Best rule however remains, don't be stupid.

Interesting that someone in Virginia doesn't use a stealth RD.

100% stealth is one of many reasons I use a Redline.

I got a question about Detectors. Around 2006 I bought a Valentine one, I used it when I competed in One Lap of America. Though I did get caught in Kansas doing 93 in a 70. Was worried I was going to jail but all I got was a 75.00 fine and 4 points to be applied at a later date.
Anyway put it away and forgot about it. Now that I have a car again that does stand out from a pack of SUV's I though I might get the Valentine out again for a 1,100 mile trip.

But since I have not paid attention to any improvements in technology in that industry I was wondering... would it be a waist of time using it given the upgrades in police radar/laser etc??

I'd say it's better than nothing. The problem I see with older units and with newer cars using so much "radar" in their cruise control systems, blind spot monitoring, etc is that the old detectors will be going off constantly will false signals. You may be able to upgrade the unit by turning it in to Valentine and getting a new unit for around $50 or so cheaper than buying a new unit outright. I did that recently and am impressed with it's ability to weed out false alarms so far. I still think the Valentine is one of the best units out there.

The V1s false too much on laser, especially at night. Unless they have fixed this with an update over the last two years. When that laser alerts goes off falsely - its not good. Now, I just run Waze.

If you send yours in for an upgrade it will cost you about $300. A savings of about $100.

Along with that you can buy options. I'd recommend the SAVVY, the remote display and the Bluetooth. That will add $160 to the cost. A net saving when you trade in your old one of about $80.

So the question becomes, do you want to keep the old one for $80? You might be able to sell it for twice that on ebay LOL.

I paid about $550 total with shipping for an out right purchase. Your final cost will be about $475 with shipping for the upgrade IF you go with the works like I did.

That has not been my experience. My laser has gone off twice and both time there was a cruiser there.

Also you can disable any of the bands if you don't want to use them. I have "X" disabled now and so far every actual radar I have come across has been "Ka". I am thinking about disabling "K" as they are always false alarms. "K" is what stores use for automatic door openers, they are used for traffic monitors, collision detection and more.

I like the SAVVY feature in the ODB plug because you can set it to automatically mute alarms when driving less than a specified speed. I have mine set to 30 mph. This filters lots of in town false alarms but still protects out of town.

I have some new information regarding this post. My last reply to you I indicated that I didn't have any false Laser alerts. Today I had 15-20 in the course of 3 hours. I started asking myself what is different. The difference was I had a friend in the car with me. He had 2 electronic devices with him, an LED flash light (powered off) and his cell phone.

I was explaining the Valentine ones operation to him when we first left and moments later I had the first false alert. During the ride I determined it had to have something to do with his cell phone. I had him place behind my seat in the rear. It didn't false after he put it back there. On the return trip home it start false alerts almost as soon as we left. We decided to do some more experimenting and placed it on the dash. It wouldn't false alert consistently but it would occasionally. We rebooted it and did anything we could think of to try to get it to false alert using the phone. There seemed to be no consistency.

Finally we gave up and he set it on the dash as we approached my house. They are paving the road right now and I hit an edge of new pavement and the laser alerted. It was a bump that set it off. We stopped in the driveway and did some more testing and we found that we could set off the laser alert at will. With the phone on the desktop screen he could push the button to turn off the display. Then if you moved the phone abruptly causing the screen to come on it would set off the Laser alert. The screen coming on is a side effect, I surmise the accelerometer in the phone is what is causing the false alert.

He has a Android Motorola Moto X phone. I have an Android Kyocera DuraForce and it doesn't set off the alert.

If you are having lots of random false Laser alerts it could be your phone.

I know this is old but the updated max360 seems pretty slick and combines V1.

I would not integrate tech into my car for any amount of $$.. headunits are about the only thing I consider.
