Weird noise coming from the engine compartment after turning off the engine
10 minutes after shutting off the car yesterday what I could best describe as a chirp sound coming from the front of the engine compartment. The sound lasted about a second or two. It repeated every couple of minutes for about 1/2 hour after shutdown. The sound was not coming from the engine it was towards the front of the engine compartment.
Has anyone ever heard a similar type sound coming from the engine compartment after the engine was shut off?

Um, very interesting Maxie. I do not not know, but with your permission I'm going to hang around hoping you get the answer. Inquiring minds want to know.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Last year in the heat of summer I was getting an electronics sound (...it could be described as a chirp) in the passenger side of the engine compartment when the motor was shut off. I haven't noticed it in a while.

Record a video with sound using your phone and post it. Thanks.

A/C condensation hitting the hot exhaust? I wouldn't describe it as a chirp sound though.

You have a good memory. I found the post from January 2015! Sent a PM to the OP waiting a reply.

Good memory Maxie, but you don't need to look that far back. Check out my video and see if that's the sound. If it is, it's a faulty AC compressor

Yes, that's the sound it made but was not nearly as loud as yours in the video. BTW, yesterday was the first time mine made that noise.
Did yours make that noise every time after you shut off the engine or was it intermittently (sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't)?
Reason I ask is, I assume if I bring it into the dealer and tell them I have an A/C compressor problem they will not replace it until they hear the sound for themselves before replacing it. Obviously I would like to get it replaced while I'm still under warranty rather than pay to replace it after my warranty runs out.

It's very intermittent. Hopefully you have a dealer who wants to help. Make a video so they can hear and show them my thread if they're willing to look. It's s faulty compressor shutoff valve that momentarily opens and closes making that weird noise under pressure. Hope this helps

Well I owe you Maxie for finding an oil catchcan/ OEM replacement tube part number for me a while back. This is what forums are for, some of us forget at times and bash each other, or have a bit too much at someone else's expense, but most importantly, we all try to help each other. PM me if your dealer decides to be useless. I might be able to get info from my dealer to help you.

The "chirping sound" that was coming from the A/C compressor has not done it since the first time I heard the sound back on May 7th.
I have an appointment to get the oil changed and tires rotated in a few weeks. My question is, should I insist they replace the A/C compressor under warranty?
Unfortunately I did not think to video record the sound back on May 7th so I don't have any hard proof of the problem and it's likely they would not be able to replicate the problem during my next visit.

I would my friend. You surely don't want to pay for 8 hours of labor and a compressor out of pocket. PM me your number. I'll text you some thoughts to help

Recall Post re Similar Noise
I recall a post about what sounds like it might a similar noise. It actually was actually a simple fix. There is an electric vacuum pump that operates to maintain vacuum for the brakes. It's on the driver's side of the engine, round and silver.
As I recall there was a leak in the line and the pump ran periodically trying to maintain the required vacuum until the system shut off all power after shutting off the engine. Easy to look and see if the noise is coming from that device.
