Paint defect, new Z06
Picked up my Z06 today. Panel gap between the front bumper and drivers quarter panel near the headlight has an interference fit or was damaged during assembly.
Where the two edges meet has damaged the paint. Missing paint and loose paint flakes in the panel gap.
Would you want this fixed?

You know, maybe I'm just having a bad day, but what is going on with these cars? Does anyone working on these cars take any pride anymore? My wife saw me all upset earier and asked if I regret buying my 16. I almost do. I'm beginning to wish I never bought it and it just continued to be a dream car for me. I guess they're right when they say never meet your heros.
$66k sticker car and the rear inner glass molding was never snapped into place, the driver side clips needed to be straighted and pressed into place. The grille never sat correctly so when I swapped to a z06 grille, I noticed that the bottom two tabs were never installed properly, just jammed on at the factory. Took the top off the first time and noticed the A pillar inner panel gap on the passanger side was twice the size of the driver side, air bubbles across the top of the windshild, a few paint blemishes, I had the AC compressor already replaced at a 1,000 miles (defective, not an assembly issue), now at 60 mph the driver side window sounds like a hurricane trying to break thru because the whetherstipping was not installed properly.
I'm just getting sick and tired of making excuses for laziness and carelessness. I'm very sorry to hijack your thread OP and vent, but this is our American sports car, our pride. Congrats on your new car, which I'm sure is a dream come true, but I'm sure a repainted panel was never a part of your dream. I guess it's just frustrating that you pay thru the nose, then start cleaning up screwups.

I wouldn't have accepted the car
With that said, after 20+ years of dreaming of owning a Vette, within a month of me owning my ordered 100K Z06 I get this. I'm pretty distraught because I spent THOUSANDS getting full body XPel and GM said they fix the paint but I'm on my own with XPel...I need to start raising hell, but I don't have the energy to at this point

These cars should never be leaving the factory. Period.

There can't be much quality control at the plant. I think they just concentrate on just getting out as many cars a day as they can. Hopefully, the new paint shop will correct the paint defects, which if you look hard, are on most of the cars.

Probably after assembly the paint was ok. Composit panels expand and contract quite a bit and the paint fails where the edges rub. Get GM touch up paint and carefully using a toothpick, with a sharpened end, flow paint into the damaged area. Virtually impossible to tell after the fix. Most likely you will have to touch up from time to time. You guys have to get over the perfect car syndrome, if a blemish gets you that worked up, sell the car and replace it with something else. Not worth sacrificing your health! (Does sound like you got what is referred to as a Monday/Friday car, wonder how one car out of thousands gets assembled improperly. [I held my breath, my car was assembled durring this past Thanksgiving Holiday{actually sat on the line}, it is virtually perfect?]).

This car was shipped to me from a forum dealer.
I am not going to try to fix this myself. I want someone who has experience with paint to make this fix. The panel needs to be pulled apart and the rough paint area needs to be sanded.

Drifting
Saw a brand new white GS at a local show last weekend with these same fender to bumper paint rubbing issues. Regardless of where it happens it's obviously a problem that's not isolated to one or 2 cars. Agree that QC on these cars sucks.

oh hell yeah...get it fixed.

I never said what I said in my earlier post to bash my dream car and don't want people to get the impression that I'm some troll. Since 08, I've owned a Tahoe, 2 CTSs, 2 gen5 Camaros, 3 Traverse leases for the wife and the Vette. (Prior to that, I avoided American cars after my 95 STS fiasco in the late 90s). The Tahoe was ok, the CTSs were much better than the Tahoe in build quality, the fit and finish on the 2 prior and the current Traverse are absolute garbage, but for $300 a month lease, who cares, they're great, love them as everyday grocery getters.
However, although the 5th gen Camaros are no world class sports cars, we can only wish our 60-120k vettes had half the quality of fit and finish of the $25k-$75k 5th gen Camaros. The pride the Canadians took in building those cars was incredible, it was an absolute honor for them that America allowed them to bring back our muscle car, especially the 2010-2013s. Then the switchover to cheaper materials and pinching pennies began taking a toll with th 14-15 model refresh, but the pride never disappeared.
The vette however, that's a hard pill to swallow. Growing up, my friends had Countach and Porsche 911 posters, I had a room full of Vettes. I could have spent my money on a Lexus, BMW or an Audi as I did in the early 2000s, but why should I? Why not support our own country's product? But now, as I'm getting ready to waste another half a day away from work, to drop it off at the only dealer I trust 50 miles away, FOR THE 4TH TIME at only 1,500 miles for yet another issue resulting from laziness and carelessness, I can't help but feel like someone got a running start and kicked me in the *****.

A lot of it has to do with GM buying cheap defective parts from vendors. Remember the cheapest bid wins the contract to build the part. So as with anything..the vendor cheapens the part to make a big profit. I doubt GM inspects or tests some of the parts. Also regarding engineering design..why the heck do the body panels have to be so tight that there is a chance they will rub against each other. Just dum engineering.
