Melting Slicks
If all you are looking for is basic scanning of sensors and codes the easiest way is a cheap elm327 OBD II I adapter and an app for the phone. Note, that the cheapest Bluetooth OBD II don't seem to work with iPhones but they work phone with android phones. You probably need a Wi-Fi adapter that is slightly more expensive.
There are a handful of free and paid apps that will work with the adapters. Can't help with iOS as I use torque app on android. If you can find one that has GM specific pids in addition to standard ones, that will get you some more data.
