Apple CarPlay! How often do you use it and is it worth it?

I really like the ability to use Siri with CarPlay. I agree with others in that it is way better than the GM voice command system.
Reading and voice reply to texts is nice too.
That said, I actually like the native infotainment music interface better. I just copied all of my songs onto a small flash drive and leave it in the car.
I really like it, but probably not enough to spend >$1000 to upgrade. YMMV

I typically just stream music from my iPhone via blue tooth. Its a pain in the *** to plug and unplug my phone all the time. And I find that it's very glitchy- particularly with music. I had it in my gen6 camaro and it worked so much better. Wish GM would give the corvette an infotainment refresh mid-cycle to be more in line with the rest of their cars. The tech in this area in the c7 is getting long in the tooth. They gave me a new volt to drive recently while my car was in the shop and the infotainment was much better in it than the vette sad to say.

I have a 2014 and did the upgrade myself, getting the 3 pieces needed with the I05 module (i.e., without factory NAV). Although Google Maps would be nice, but since I have an iPhone, the Apple Maps do the job. Answering your question; I use it often, leaving the map on all the time, even if I don't have a destination programmed in. The other features that apply to the phone/text are nice to have available, when needed.
Seems like $1400 is a bit expensive for an upgrade unless that includes installation. The parts upgrade I did is now down to $675.00: http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-15-FACTOR...item3f5e020ac6
Good luck!!

I still use Waze and CarPlay. I like Waze for its alerts. I have Waze open in my center console plugged in for CarPlay. As long as I have music playing through CarPlay (I usually do) the voice alerts play for Waze. I don't need to see Waze so that word fine.
If I'm using Nav the cars Nav is not horrible and easier for me to see plus has the HUD integration. I just send destinations to it through the Chevy phone app because data entry sucks on the Nav app. Why they can't just do it like the app on the car I don't know....

Being a working stiff, with a couple of businesses, my phone rings constantly, it ruins the music listening experience when it's plugged into the car. Just another reason for me not to connect the two.
I keep my music on a thumb drive, and my phone on silent, then make my decisions on what, or who I want to listen or talk to, without all the disruption in my environment.
Again, just my opinion.

I certainly could, but sometimes I want to take that call, and would rather not have clients on speakerphone. Also when engaged in a conversation with a client, and I want to get out of the car, it disrupts the flow of the conversation. I just find it better for me to use certain tools certain ways, and the phone is nothing more than a portable tool I prefer to keep as portable as possible.
Just my personal preferences.

When I acquired my car thought Apple Car Play was just a wiz thing. Surprise, I use it often, love the ability to voice text. I also have factory navigation too, heck I can navigate and get lost with the best of them.

Here we go again. FYI, we "senior citizens" know how to use technology too.
I'm 65 and use it about as much as you describe...except I use Android Auto for navigation, voice commands, Pandora, and phone calls. I use SMS to listen to my text messages and have over 4,000 songs on a SanDisk Ultrafit flashdrive plugged into the USB port in the center console.
I do agree with you in that it's a great system as far as I'm concerned and I use it all the time. It's too bad the onboard GM navigation/voice recognition is so clunky and horrible. Google runs circles around it.

I use mine every time I drive the car. Waze and music mostly but other features as well. Is it $1400 worth of good, well when I needed a new head unit for my truck, I bought one that had that as one of the features, it was $1200.

Being 38 and working in the health care IT (Epic software) I tend to relied on technology and its forever updating software. I think this is a good move since I get tons of texts and drive out of town often.
