Default Side skirts

Do anyone know the purpose for the side skirts on the GS and Z06 corvettes.

The basic reason for side skirts in a sports car is to help maintain the lower pressure under the car to increase downforce. The higher pressure on the sides of the car will flow to the lower pressure underside, assuming the overall design creates that lower pressure through the use of front air dams and splitters. The side skits help maintain a larger lower pressure area.

However those downforce effects start at around 100 mph and are signicant at 150 mph and higher. For a street car they serve other functions.

The following was my experience with my 2014 Z51 and why I opted for the full length side skirts when I ordered my Grand Sport.

Even after adding GM splash guards on my 2014 C7 I was still getting pebbles thrown from the front tires hitting and marking the GM added plastic rocker panel protection. Added full length side skirts and all marking stopped. In fact was able to remove the marked-up discolored GN plastic rocker panel protection. When I sold the car ; 3 1/2 years later the rocker panel looked new.

On my Grand Sport ordered the Series 2 aero because it has full length not the 3/4 standard length. Also ordered the wider/deeper ASC front splash guards to help the cause!

Cleaned out a lot of the 2014 pics from my Forum album but those skirts went straight back and are contoured vertically. Below is a pic left.

The Stage 2 aero skirts on the Grand Sport tuck in at the rear. But they need to as the fenders stick out several inches and you'd hit them when exiting if they did not!.

LG Motorsports Carbon Fiber Side Skirts

Grand Sport, M7, Stage 2 Aero, 2.5LT Red Interior, Machined Faced Wheels- many minor mods.
