Do I understand it correctly that the latest fix from GM concerning the A8 V4 mode rpm fluctuations is a fluid flush/change only, with no torque converter replacement? If so, can somebody provide the PIP or TSB number? And where can a list of applicable PIPs and TSBs be found? Thanks for any help.
Sorry I can't provide you with the documents you want but I can tell you it is what they did to mine the first week of May, and It did fixed the fluctuation and shudder issues I was having. I do prefer the less invasive approach, however only time will tell if it was a success or not.
The service advisor told me if mine had been born before 11/15 it would have gotten a new torque converter, but since it was the second generation torque converter, I got the fluid flush. I was told to go drive it for a few hundred miles, and if the problems come back then I get a new torque converter.
I had the triple-flush procedure done on my 8/16 build date 2017 GS about 3 weeks ago.
RPM fluctuations are still there, but less frequent/wide and the shuddering is gone.
I have a Range AFM delete plugged in and will probably keep it on from now on.
I don't understand what's happening when the transmission switches to V4 mode? Everyone keeps talking about fluctuations and transmission shuttering...? Would someone please explain what scenario or scenarios of how you are driving your car when these transmission "events" start to happen? This way I can see if mine is doing that too...I normally just drive with the transmission in T (touring) and sometimes I can go for 3-5 without red lights.
Just over 20,000 now. Had the flush done at 17,200 thinking that I would be back after the 200 mile test period for the TC change but so far, it's still performing like it did when I first bought it or at least pretty close to it.

Most of my shuddering would happen while I was in cruise set at around 70 or so and when there was a demand for fuel to maintain the speed, it would shudder. It progressed to doing the same at 45 mph or so and didn't matter if it was in D or M. I would compare the shudder to someone driving a manual and after coming to a stop light/sign, they forget to shift back into first and quickly remember as they release the clutch while still in 3rd or 4th.
The shudder for me was when cruising 35 to 80 mph felt like a tire out of balance.
Rhythmic, smooth for seconds then shudder for seconds. Does this no matter what
condition the road is. V4 or V8. Had the tires road force balanced to rule them out.
Now that it has been flushed I had the not going into reverse episode for the first time
today. I have to back up a little to exit my garage. This morning I started the car
put it in reverse to back up a little and the car did not move until I applied gas pedal.
RPM's reved up a little then lurched somewhat back. First time this has happened.
They are going to drive it with the connection to GM engineers tomorrow to see if
they will replace the torque converter. If denied I will trade it in, wait on a good
deal for a ls3 c6. Put a big cam and headers on it and be happy.
