If it was as you describe I would have went into court and said to the judge "Your Honor, I was just talking to the man from many yards away. I fail to see how that was 'interfering'".

The other thing that is weird about your story is that you start off talking about a dog catcher and end up interfering with the police. Since when is a dog catcher a cop?
I'm not the poster, but in my neck of the woods our
"dog catchers" are called Animal Control and they are part of the sheriff department.

Ya know what I get a kick out of ? The sanctimonious self righteous types. Who owns a corvette and always drives the speed limit ? We all know the answer to that one. Who has "run their corvette thru the gears" up to way over the speed limit on public roads( including all those sanctimonious self righteous types). We all know the answer to that one too.

Most of us pick our places out in the middle of nowhere to have a little fun and are very selective. Why ? So we don't wind up like this poor guy, but none of us are saintly individuals with our vettes.

Sorry, I remember riding in my parents car with no seatbelts and my dad sipping a beer while driving and he was not in the minority (this was legal at the time). Considering a lot of cars didn't have seat belts until the mid-60s I'm not sure you can blame this on doing stupid things. Regarding the drinking while driving, I wouldn't classify that as the norm or as an excuse to make it alright back then and sure as heck not now.

Since the automobile was introduced people have been doing stupid things. The OP is not trying to get out of anything he is trying to get the reckless driver charge reduced. By trying to get the reckless driving charges reduced, that's ........kind of trying to get out of things......... isn't it? "Not getting out of anything" is to accept the penalty as is and move on with life. By the OP getting a lawyer, yes, he may get things reduced but he will likely end up financially worse off once all the costs are said & done (court costs, lawyer fees, still paying excessive fines, increased insurance, etc.) .

He is also taking full responsibility.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a saint by any means, but when I open it up, I'm either in a controlled environment (I know what's down the road by having someone down the road or I'm at a track), or I'm out on some straight flat country road where possibilities are limited but the point is I have "thought through" my actions.

Two thoughts:

1) Get a lawyer
2) You don't have to reply "subscribed" to a thread in order to subscribe. Use the thread tools option.

Doesn't change two facts - while dog catchers are called Animal Control officers they are not called police officers. Also, talking to somebody does not interfere anybody and no person in their right mind would think so.

Me, too! Particularly those who claim to have some sort of insider knowledge on how everyone else drives their cars and also those who attempt to make a criminal act into something noble.

I agree, hire an attorney. He can petition the court to reduce the charges, especially if it's a first offense. When you enter your plea plead "no contest" and not guilty. Going to cost you either way..

Any half-wit traffic lawyer will get this reduced without breaking a sweat, but you MUST hire a lawyer for sure.

I speak from first hand experience on the same charge, many years ago.

Crazy **** happens brother.

Recall when you'd flash your high beams to let the other driver know there was a cop ahead. When I was stationed at Holloman AFB, the local paper wrote about people getting ticketed for doing that.

The offence? Disturbing the peace

OK, back to our regularly scheduled program: Get a lawyer

Bottom line. Get an attorney and they'll take care of it. Probably cost you about $400 but it's usually worth it. I doubt you'll get off but if you can get no points and avoid the suspension great.
good luck

Actually... No I don't. Round my neck of the woods people only flashed their high beams to say "You're going too slow - get out of my way".

When I was stationed at Holloman AFB, the local paper wrote about people getting ticketed for doing that.
Getting ticketed for that (though a slimeball move) is one thing. Getting convicted is quite another. Though I could see this if the guy was flashing everybody multiple times, etc.

Again, prove it.

The guy already said he got a lawyer ergo...

If the police have you on radar and maybe even video, I don't see any reason to try to say it did not happen, and seems like a lawyer is not going to help.

First, fifty states, fifty sets of laws, make sure the advice is California specific. The folks who prosecute this case will not talk to you. It will take a lawyer. Make sure you know everything, for instance, a reckless driving conviction in Texas come with automatic one year license suspension just like DWI.
