Default I am now an A8 victim

After a few years of reading all of the A8 trashing that is written on this forum, not only did I disagree with it, I defended the transmission on how great it was. Not any more, as I am now a victim of the crappy transmission. A couple of weeks ago as I was driving my 2016 Z51 on a back road at 45 MPH, It felt like the car was on a bumpy road or like it wasn't running on all of the cylinders and sputtering. If I sped up, it would go away. I came home and researched it here on the forum to get what the symptoms were for the faulty torque converter. After reading up on it, I drove the car again and sure enough, I have the classic case of a bum TC. I called the dealer where I purchased the car and asked them if they had knowledge of all of the torque converter issues that existed with the C7's. Just as I expected, they never heard of this problem. So now I am going to have to educate them on the huge problem that exists and try to keep them from telling me that this is normal C7 behavior and that I don't have a problem. I am taking the car in this week and taking them for a drive. If anybody has any service bulletin number or any way for me to get the dealer to relate my issues to the TC, please let me know.

SEE POST 93 FOR MY SECOND UPDATE
SEE POST 126 FOR THIRD UPDATE
SEE POST 132 FOR FOURTH UDATE (Hopefully final)

Many of us A8 folks that have not had an issue yet hope that this never visits us but I hope all of us wish you well in the rectification of the issue.

They're either lying or totally uninformed as to the issues with the A8 transmission and torque converter. That's not very encouraging.

This is the newest bulletin
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...tate-1324.html

Good luck and keep us updated.
I too called two chevy dealers and both claimed to know nothing about these problems.
I subsequently took my 2017 GS to a Cadillac/GMC dealership where my best friend's dad is the master tech. He allowed me to take his transmission tech for a ride and to my surprise he knew all about the problem. He claimed to perform 4-5 of the new triple-flush procedures on Denali and Escalade trucks per week. Mine was his first Vette , but I knew that my car was in good hands. Shuddering is gone and now RPM fluctuations are barely noticeable.

I have a feeling we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg and as GM A8 equipped vehicles get more and more miles on them we will see many more troubles.

Its possible that many failures will ocur after vehicles start falling out of warranty.

I have not purchased a C7 yet and would like an auto but theres no way I'm chancing it...Gonna be an M7 for me/

I am convinced that dealers are trained not to admit problems that they are fully aware of.

I own a M7 but that just sucks. Hope GM gives you great service and fixes it correctly for
you.

Question:
This isn't just a C7 problem, correct? This shows up in GM vehicles equipped that have V8's with AFM and the 8 speed auto?
Also, does GM use the 8 speed in any cars that don't have AFM? If so, do THOSE 8 speeds have the same problems?

The good dealers/techs know about about the problems and won't BS you.

No, yes, and not that I'm aware of.

I tend to like to go into the dealer without throwing a bunch of stuff at them first, let them diagnose without any prejudice. If they fail to uncover things, then throw all the documentation at them and do their job for them.

Sorry you've joined the club, but you won't be the last one to experience what GM has done to a lot of Corvette and Silverado owners. A lot of guys defended GM and the A8 when I first brought up my issues with my car over two years ago and here we are with the same issues.

Everything on that paper is what they did to mine - but then was told to keep it under 70mph for 200 miles - I am at 150 miles now - but so far feels / runs great

Good advice. Everyone loves it when a customer comes in and tells them how to do their job.

The whole crazy thing is people keep rolling the dice and still buy the A8. where is the comon sense I don't have an A8 but my dealer knows all about it. they even got one in for the fix that another dealer made worse by doing a poor job installing a new converter.

Do the rwd V6 cars and trucks use the same A8? They wouldn't have AFM. It would be interesting to know if these also have abnormal failure rates.

The Canyons and Colorados with V6 engines have A6 transmissions. The Camaros have the A8.
