seeing that this is my first Vette a 2016 Z51 2lt 7spd w/ Nav I'm enamored with it.... however I think had I had it to do over again, I'd opt for a GS or Z06 because I love the body styling etc..of those and would like to have the mag ride as well... is it worth trading up for a difference of 25-30K to a left over 16 Z06 or just wait til the end of the year and see what type of deals are being offered on a GS ? I don't need 650hp frankly it scares me, but I'm sure it'd be nice to have... what do you all think?
It doesn't matter what we think. But, you asked . . .
As far as I'm concerned, it's not an "upgrade" for my use as an almost daily driver, and it's most certainly not worth $30K to me. Moreover, I prefer the cleaner "narrow" body look.
I certainly do agree on the merits of MSRC. I wouldn't own a C7 without it, but I have that in a Z51 along w/ the eLSD and PTM. Since I don't care for the "wide body" look, all I'm missing from the GS are larger tires and brakes, which aren't an advantage for street use, and I sure as hell have no desire for 650HP on the street.
If I was a first time C7 buyer, I'd probably go for a wide body. I'm a sucker for fat tires. If you already own one then things are different. The way I see it is you are essentially spending $30k for a car that looks a little meaner with bigger tires. Yes, a GS will slightly out perform your Z51 because of the fatter tires, but lets face it, it's really a cosmetic thing for most people. When you get in the car, can you really truly honestly tell the difference? ...and not just say so because you dropped $30k for fatter tires and need to rationalize. Actually with fatter tires it will drive sloppier. More tramlining ect...
Yeah I think I had a momentary lapse of sanity.. lol .... its not so much the beating ... the Z was actually 23K more MSRP that's why I was trying to justify it... thanks for the info, you might've saved a marriage...
Everyone will have different opinions for sure. When I was Corvette shopping, I test drove both, the Stingray and the z06. To me, these were 2 totally different cars. The z06 is a complete beast and looks wise, I feel in love with the wide body.
My buddy was just having to go through this recently. He walked into a dealer that had only stingrays on the lot. He test drove a used 15' stingray and fell in love. He called just as he was looking to sign the paperwork, I told him before he went through with it, to go look at a GS and stingray side-by-side. Needless to say, he opted to spend the extra money and go with the GS. He absolutely loves his GS and thanked me afterwards.
Really not getting anything for the extra money that you will normally use on the street. Looks of the so called wide is subjective, I prefer the slim high speed look of the original C7 Stingray. As for magnetic ride, I had it on my C6, don't miss it with the C7.
I have a Z51. If I was going to "upgrade", I'd go to a Z06. GS might be a consideration of I was moving from a C5 or C6 to a C7, but not from a C7 to a C7, just not worth the depreciation hit.
I would wait to see what announcements come with the ZR1 as well as let the FY18 new plant stuff gets online. By the time Nov / Dec comes around a lot more will be known with how all of that is working out and you'll be moving into a time of year where there tends to be more incentives out there.
Tough thing is that as you get farther out the rumors around the C8's will be even heavier, which is something you'll need to factor in, might it be worth waiting even longer :-)
This is how people end up owning 12 Corvettes or more over their lifetime, so don't stress about it too much, it's your new life :-)
Some good advice from others here.
What really matters is your own personal opinion and how comfortable you are spending your own money!
But since you asked, the GS and the Z06 wide body style and the wider wheel/tire combination makes for the best looking C7 Corvette available IMO. But you know what they say about opinions!!
You have a great car now, I would save up for a C8 or the next great thing.
This ^^^ You already have a C7 and you don't seem enamored with the Z06, so why upgrade? You don't gain much. IF it is true that the C8 is just around the corner (and it may not be true at all) then that would be the exciting time to upgrade and easily justifiable to certain other parties in your household.
Sell your car in the for sale section. Buy a slightly used GS or Z06 in the same for sale section. There are a lot of really nice low mile cars out there. No need to give the dealers all of your hard earned money. When the C-8 does come out, it might be a good idea to wait a year or two for the bugs to be worked out before purchasing.
I had a base C6 and traded it in for a C7 Z06. Mechanically it's a whole different animal and I'm sorry but the wide body is the way to go as far as I'm concerned.
Not saying I wouldn't buy a first model year vehicle (depending on the make and model) but waiting a year or two usually does result in buying a car that has more bugs worked out and also usually means you pay less as supply and demand flip and incentives become available.
I tried to work out a deal on a few GS' but the monetary difference was out of hand... there was a difference of say 4K in MSRP between my car and theirs, and they were looking at 20k on top.. my car is garaged, like new with 2000 miles... I would've considered a trade at say 14K which I thought was fair but 20k is way too far off...Am I out of line ?
