Is this a known fact or just wishful thinking as to GM's 'fixes'? Pondering an upgrade to 2019 model but if it's just gonna be a screaming misery with regards to A8, perhaps not.

The lighter duty version of the 8L90 (the 8L45) had another revised torque converter issued for it this summer so maybe if this works for the lower torque version in the midsize GM pickups then maybe they will roll out the new design as a replacement for other platforms. This redesign for the 8L45 came out AFTER the new super duper special fluid wasn't able to entirely hide the shudder issue.

The 8L45 is a near identical twin to our 8L90 (aka the A8) which is the higher torque rated version used in performance cars, full size pickups and SUVs, etc. where the higher torque capability is needed.

See here for the GM small truck twins bulletin: https://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb...dPdf?id=205367

My 2015 was manufactured in Sept of ‘15 and I just turned 12k miles on it. I went in to the dealership and they said they are replacing quite a few TC. So I felt comfortable leaving my car. They did the warranty work in 2 days. It seems as good as new. I’m wondering if the new TC is a rehash of the inferior part or if anyone has had problems with the replaced part? I’d like to think the car is good now or know if I need to dump the car before it goes out again?

You still have some time on your powertrain warranty. Unless you just want to sell/trade I would hang on to it.

I have 18K on my 16 Z06 and have had the flush, torque converter changed and now have a transmission valve body ordered (all covered under warranty). Very aggravating but I like the **** out of this car.
I'll hang on to it until the warranty expires or longer if no additional problems; then I'll look for a good used 19 Z.

There is a chart tab as well that has some data based on the April Poll results, but this will update with new data of course.

My A8 broke the input shaft on the dyno... fyi. I replaced the tranny and installed a Circle D 3200 stall converter. We'll see.

Just added my 2016 Z51 to the list. 07/15 build date. 3150 on the odometer. Taken in for triple flush on 9-20-18. The service tech came in and said there was no improvement and they were ordering a new Torque converter system and transmission. Awesome service in my opinion.

I just added my 2015 Stingray, build date of 2/25/2015. At 9500 miles the shudder appeared, took it into my dealer and they checked it out and told me it needed a new Torque Converter, and that the triple flush was not an option for my VIN. They have ordered the new TC and is supposed to be here Monday for a Tuesday install (2 Oct 2018). All under warranty of course, and I got the feeling from how quickly they diagnosed it, that they are seeing enough of these and GM is sending them bulletins about it.

Default Torque converter replacement

My 2015 Z51 is in the shop after experiencing shuddering while cruising at ~60mph. Tech called me today and said it will need a new torque converter. I'm at 31k miles.

A little follow up on my situation. It took two days but they have replaced the torque converter, flushed the transmission and even flushed the transmission cooler. The problem is certainly gone and everything is running as new. They told me to put 200 miles on it and by that time it should have relearned my driving habits. Will post an update if anything further develops. Glad to have it back and hoping for some driving time this weekend. And lastly want to give a round of applause to Cory and the mechanics at Jack Schmitt Chevrolet in O'Fallon Illinois for doing such a great job!

I'm taking mine in for the 2nd time tomorrow. Not too happy with the dealer though. There were two other issues I wanted fixed and they went 0 for 3.(Since when is the driver side armrest, the center console lid? LOL)
The 1st time, they said they did updates to software and there was no problems after that. On my drive home of about 20 miles, I could feel it doing the same thing except now my 1-2 shifts felt soft.
I've got just under 30k miles. I want them to analyze the transmission fluid for burnt clutch material.

I am glad to report that my 2016 just came back from a long 4000k road trip that took us to Dallas, OKC, Arkansas, North Carolina and Tennessee. In Mid August I took it in to the dealer who quickly diagnosed the "shudder" and replaced the torque converter at 29600 miles. I used the "E" "W" "S" and "T" modes on the trip from interstate highways to switchback roads (if you can call them that) in Tennessee. All went well.
From reading the thread, I don't blame GM for the service woes. The A8 problem seems to be bad in their trucks too! it seems that the dealership either gets it right or gets it wrong. Mine, Bob Elliot's Greenwood Chevrolet in Fort Meade Florida has treated me right for four Vettes so I am happy.

It's in my garage today waiting for the hurricane to pass. Needs washed badly as there was road debris everywhere and I pick up a couple of stone chips along the way.

Just an update, did the 400 mile break-in for the triple flush and all seems fine thankfully. My Corvette Tech had confidence in the flush. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I have a 2016 Z51 with 5,200 miles built 10-2015 and it had the shudder problem. Dealer claimed flushing the fluid with Mobil 1 tranny fluid solves the problem in 99% of them so I let them flush the fluid. After driving for about 50 miles the problem seems to be gone, I will keep my fingers crossed and update you if the problem returns.

Whit the 40 pages in this thread it’s alot of info to digest.
Is this problem affecting the 2018 or 2019 models?

Yea, there is no reason to believe the 2018/19 models are any different
There is some hope the 2019's come with the new/updated Transmission Fluid.. but I haven't heard of any way to verify.

Waiting to hear about the permanent fix from GM and what they're gonna do for all the earlier C7's.

To put this all in perspective, it is only about 5% at most that have issues. This is based on polls taken and other criteria. Not to say down the line there would be a higher percentage. I have over 80,000 miles on mine and it is the best automatic transmission I have ever driven by far.

I've put over 500 miles on mine since the flush and it seems to have solved my problems.

For me, it solved shudder, but not the RPM fluctuations. Range device fixed that.
