A8 Transmission failure tracking

Got the call and just picked my car up after torque converter replacement. GoPro was recording before I started the car to leave the dealership. Didn't get 6min into the video before the V4-to-v8 rattle was going nuts again, turned around and brought it back. They won't have time to do anything with it today (friday), so I'm going to keep it over the weekend and bring it back Monday.
It's too bad, I was hoping it would at least be in passable condition to trade it this weekend...

True, but I'm actually fine with it this way. The quicker I can rack up the Lemon Law strikes, the better. Best case scenario for me is to be out of this car, without taking a bath on a car I bought 30 days ago.

Thanks for putting this together. As outlined below, I have had 2 C7's with transmission problems.
I added my information, but would like to suggest another option to the Failure drop-down. Could a field be added like "complaint" or "abnormal behavior" bee added to address those with issues that haven't been identified or looked at by a dealer?
I had a 2015 Z51 that got the torque converter replaced and was so unhappy with the car afterwards (rattles, same tranny issues, etc.) that I traded it for my GS and am quite apprehensive about having work done on this one.

Torque converter replaced, I have the paperwork in hand. I dropped it off Wed morning, they called me Thurs evening to pick it up. Its at one of the larger dealerships in Houston, with supposed Corvette specialists on staff in the repair center. I took the quality manager for a quick drive, and he confirmed the issue is still there. He says they've dealt with enough A8 issues on the Corvettes that this doesn't shock him, and they keep TC and transmission assemblies in stock.

I could add a field like that of course, but one issue is that this can start to spin the spreadsheet into a different direction to track all issues. That's something I mentioned earlier that I was interested in trying to create a master issue thread, but haven't quite sorted that....
The intent of this sheet was to specifically report on those that have had an issue serviced by the dealer.
Honestly I think it is important to have these issues reported as well. That's one of the problems I think is there are a bunch of people out there that have the problem and don't know it, or have it and don't report it, so GM is not seeing the full picture of the issue.

I hear ya :-) I added to the Failure choices.... Failure Suspected - Not diagnosed or repaired
That work?
That work?

I think that's fair. Gives you some better data on the number of units out there potentially having an issue. Sometimes getting a dealer to acknowledge and actually do something about it is a big part of the battle/frustration.

2016 z51 2nd trans issue 7k miles on clock
Had torque tube and flywheel replaced around 6kish miles from the infamous "scratching metal on metal" sound. Fast forward 1kish miles yesterday on my way to work, 5 minutes live to work, massive metal on metal grinding. Had to pull over soooo loud behind engine obviously under car. Nurse to dealer initial thought was starter grinding up against flywheel. Car there all day with tech and will hopefully done Monday. First repair took 7 days, service guy states more new c7's coming in with same issues. My car was purchased with 14,000 in upgrades with a sticker over 84k. I love my car, my 3rd vette. Dad just purchased 17 GS 2lt. Thought I'd share...

I drove over an hour each way to the dealer that I bought it from, since they promised me over the phone yesterday that they wanted to make it right.
Their "solution" was for me to just trade in the Corvette for an $8,000 loss, and I could buy my old car back for another couple thousand loss. This is on a Corvette that I've had for a month.
Classic Chevrolet in Sugarland, TX if anyone finds this post from the Googles.

Car buy back...
Rogue3 what are you going to do? I'm not gonna lie, yesterday the thought entered my mind and I started thinking the what if's, and what car I would get if the dealer offered to buy back my car. I'm not sure how in the world that would work

I'm willing to go the distance to get it bought back. Working up to buying a legitimate sports car has been my lifelong goal that I finally achieved, and these guys have ruined that for me. There's no more joy in it. I'm just fueled by anger and frustration now, so I'll take it as far as it needs to go on a matter of principle.
Like I mentioned before, I did the lemon law dance in Florida in 2011 with BMW over a parasitic drain issue. It's a long and painful road, but its not unknown territory.
Oh, and as far as what car I would get instead? Probably back to a Mustang GT most likely. It's not as swanky, but its better than the loaner Malibu that's been in my possession all this time... At least I can count on driving it without its guts coming through the firewall. If I go with a nicer sports car, it would be a Boxster. I was 50/50 about C7 or Boxster for this car, and I clearly made the wrong choice.

This is the new rattle, which is 100% reproducible each time you press the gas pedal in v4 model.

My service guy knew right away what it was just by telling him when the noise did and didn't happen and what it sounded like. He had already replaced several of the pulleys.

The dealer that has seen tons of A8 problems and replaced my TC says they have never heard of any problem with the tensioner... Uhh, ok.
I'm convinced that the AFM roughness in the motor is the main problem, and that's not ever going to go away. That roughness beats the crap out of the hydraulic damper in the tensioner pully, causing it to fail. That roughness then in turn wears out something in the lockup mechanism of the torque converter, causing the shudder.
Just continually replacing these parts isn't addressing the real issue here, which makes this car not viable to own long-term.

I've got the A6, so no skin in the game, but how long can Tadge Juechter just totally blow off this issue
A8 owners should be bugging GM until Tadge steps up to the plate. Why not start a thread in the Ask Tadge section, demanding this guy to admit the A8 is flawed with a promise to work on a permanent fix. Just my 2c.

The A8 issue is with all GM products. And even though it is a relatively small percentage of the cars it is significant enough to address. There is a rather large elephant sitting in GMs living room.
