Update....bought with 4 m showing ..
mine started the shudder with in 3k miles it was unsetteling total it went 8 times to 4 different service depts the first 3 said no problem found but each reflashed the computer for the trans. ... the last dealer in Dallas off 635 looked at the video I shot of rpm moving on flat road in cruse gave me a rental on Monday they did the flush and i got it back on fri and shudder and tack wobble were gone....
IDK why the first 3 could not find issue or just do the flush... but at last I am happ9no shudder... now have to get them to look at wha seat memory is failing

Less than 9000 miles on my 2016 A8 and the transmission shudder started the other day. When I'm in D the Tac fluctuates about 100 rpm every couple of seconds and I can feel a bump every time it does this. For now, If I place the car into M and force 8 speed I dont seem to feel it. Guess its my turn to take a practically brand new car into the shop for this crap.

How hard to install, and does that void the warranty ?

Plugs right in to your obd2 port. I think it helped my car shift better. Plus it no longer goes into v4 mode while its plugged in. Excellent device. 200.00 bucks. Does not void any warranties. Can anyone else chime in on the range device?

I got mine when i had about 10,000 miles on my car. Wasn't sure i was having the issue or not. But i think it helped it a bunch. I was getting maybe a little over paranoid with all the reading out there. Plus it will be easier on your lt1 not going i to v4 mode. I would buy direct from range also so it has all the latest software updates in it. Plus there are ebay clones out there.

Got mine direct from Range last month for $189.

Smooth shifts and no V4 mode!

It's simple. Just plug it into the OBD2 port and you're good to go. Does not void the warranty. But when you take your car in for service unplug it.

The range does nothing to eliminate the issue. Not sure why everyone thinks its a magical fix. If your trans is shuttering you will notice it even with the Range plugged in. I have an A8 and a Range, Had to get the flush even with it. It masks it sure, but you can still notice something is not right.

Don't like the idea of it going into v4 mode even if your in track or sport mode setting. Would be nice if it only did this in economy setting. Till then i will keep range device plugged in. Ive heard that alot of the 8speeds in all gm vehicles have had some problems.

Thought the Range AFM will stop the floating between V4 and V8 which is the cause of the shudder. TC trying to compensate. No?

Now that makes sense, track mode should disable the v4 .I am surprised it doesn't.

Had the range for a while then turned off afm completely when it got tuned and it still got the shudder. Maybe it just delayed the inevitable?

Did the new fluid fix the shudder? Supposedly the new fluid doesn't hold moisture like the old fluid. Gm said this will fix it.

We will see. From my homework I see they changed the fluid once before, and then changed it a 2nd time to something else recently at the start of 2019.

No, the range or lack of AFM is not the "fix." The A8 has a new design on the TC to make it fit in roughly the space of an A6. The slim design of the TC is what is helping cause the shudder. The V8 to V4 change on AFM equipped cars with an A8 simply works the TC a bit harder and allows the TC shudder to occcur a few miles sooner than non AFM cars or AFM cars using M or a Range device.

Does anyone know what the lowest gear V4 occurs. I always thought it was 5th, but I have noticed v4 icon even in 4th recently. Also in sport or track, when is NPP forced open regardless of RPM. I always thought it was 1st thru 4th. Thanks.

NPP is never forced open regardless of rpm in any mode including sport and track unless you pull the NPP fuse, install a Mild 2 Wild, or make some other mod to disable the NPP from closing. Sport and track modes just give you more occasions where the NPP is open.
