Hmm, first the C7 has "cold air induction," picks it up from a gap from the fender well and an inner fender well. That takes a sealed chamber from the engine compartment for the air filter. This one looks like it picks up air from the same location (by the shape of the air intake tube) but is open to hot air on the back side from the engine compartment. The aFe I had on my 2014 C7 (and removed before selling) and I'll install on my Grand Sport has a similar filter housing as the OEM and retains "cold air intake,". It has a larger oiled cotton filter and a somewhat less restrictive air intake tube. The big noticeable difference is the loud "sucking sound" at WOT. As Tadge pointed out in a post, after market folks do not have to worry about max noise laws and intake sound is the next loudest to exhaust.
To validate the statement, my 8.2 Liter ProStreet Rod has long tube headers and straight through Borla mufflers through 3 inch pipes that exit just before the rear wheels. The 14 inch diameter, 5 inch high K&N oiled cotton air filter is almost as loud at WOT as the exhaust! Loved the sucking sound in the Vette.
Always a debate about how much extra hp but a forum poster had it dynod before an after an aFe install. He used their more restrictive paper filter and got 10 more hp. Even if only 10 hp, that's twice the power and half the cost of NPP! 400% better hp/$! But like NPP, it's the sound we spent that extra money to achieve!
WeaponX doesn't mess around with junky performance parts, so my guess is that it would be top notch. Did they have this on their website with performance increase data? If so, what performance gains did they claim?
It is on their website but I don't see any performance data. But thanks for the comment. At least I know that Weapon is a reputable product
In my opinion, Ben (the owner) is the type of guy that wouldn't sell something that he wouldn't put on his own personal car. With that said, if you're interested in the intake, I would give them a call to see what gains they have seen with it. They have an in-house dyno so they should have some numbers that they could share with you.
I wish they had a few pictures or a video of how it's installed on a LT1 equipped Corvette. They also have a another hose that I think must connect into the fender opening but I don't know. Needs more information. Oh BTW they have a video of how to clean the air filter which is a big as a football.
