Default Windshield replacement question

I am having the windshield replaced due to a manufacturer defect. I know the replacement has to be made to be used with HUD, but does it matter if it is a GM windshield or something different? The dealership said they have a company that comes out to do all windshield work, which I assume is better than letting a clueless tech do it. Just looking for opinions regarding any difference in windshields.

Thanks

My windshield that was replaced due to defect was shipped from GM to the dealer. Dealer called me to let me know they had it and we scheduled a time to bring in the vette for a 3rd party auto glass company to install it.

IMHO this is the way to go. Use someone who installs windshields every day.

That may be what they did with mine too now that i think about it. They did schedule me to bring it in about a week after I showed it to them.

Differently look for the "HUD" as in the photo above; this glass is made to reflect the HUD....otherwise, you may become Hudless.

To answer your question. It does matter if it is a GM replacement. Don't install an aftermarket. Why? Because they can vary in quality. And have the dealers installer do it. Good luck!

Good news is I did receive the correct windshield. Bad news is, I noticed a scrape on the carbon flash rear vent. I can't say the dealer did this, but it is something new I noticed. It is what it is, I guess. Anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to fix this? Is it just touch up paint like anything else?

If the scrape is deep enough to get your fingernail into, use Dr. Color Chip to fill it in. If its just a mark, then the touch up paint won't have much to hang on too....perhaps a little lite rubbing compound.

Thanks. I got a Dr Colorchip for a small chip on the nose. I'm not sure I'm quite happy with the results considering the cost. Maybe I'm just not using it right. I tried about 5 coats, and it looks better, but not what I hoped for. I may go back and try again after letting it sit for a while.

It takes a little practice to get the feel and technique of it.

Had my windshield replaced today (previously repaired rock chip started cracking) I wanted my dealer to do it as I've read about all the issues people have had, but they contract out to a local company and that company no longer works with insurance companies - so I was on my own.

I went with Binswanger Glass - they have a location across the street from my home. They worked with my insurance company, ordered OEM glass and installed the new windshield perfectly - I am very impressed with their service

The next time you leave your car at the dealer, have the service writer walk around your car (with you) and make notes of any scratches, dents, chips etc. I also get out my smartphone and take photos of my car as the service writer checks it out.

Greetings,

I also had my windshield replaced (inside crack on passenger's side) under warranty. They used an outside party with a tremendous reputation. The dealer did not do the work. Second, since I don't have HUD, my windshield was probably not a HUD windshield, but it was a GM windshield.

Took my car in due to windshield delaminating at the top on the driver's side. S/A had his boss approve the replacement under warranty, and a new windshield and clips were ordered. Should hear sometime this week.
