Will proposing $50k OTD for a Base 2017 1LT AT be ridiculous...+ other questions?
Greetings:
I am looking for a 2017 Base 1LT AT and find three below models. It's a replacement for my 2013 Audi S4, Glacier White Metallic which I hate it. It shows all the dirt, brake dust, exhaust deposit right after I wash it. I think Watkins Glen Gray Metallic with black rim should be better and my only choice this time.
Here are my questions:
- Is it ridiculous and unrealistic to propose from $50k to $53k OTD on any of these cars?
- Would you pick the Z51 1LT even though it's an used 2016 model with 695 miles?
- Will it be better to wait until September through December timeframe hoping to get a model with your desired body and rim color? The down side, I won't have the 10% off MSRP and will have to pay MSRP, is this correct?
- In your opinion, will I run into the same problem as stated above should I pick the Blade Silver Metallic color?
Advance thanks for your comments and helps.
MODEL YEAR TRIM VIN DEALER PRICE COLOR MILES
USED 2016 Z51 1LT 1G1YG2D76G5109991 $53,320 Watkins Glen Gray Metallic 685
2017 COUPE 1LT 1G1YB2D77H5121390 $53,969 Watkins Glen Gray Metallic
2017 COUPE 1LT 1G1YB2D70H5123837 $53,519 Blade Silver Metallic
The excel format does not properly carry over here so I also attach a picture for clarification.

I am not sure what the June offers are from GM, but I picked up a new 2017 Grand Sport 2LT at the end of May and got 16.5% off MSRP. There are some good deals to be had out there.

I thought WGG was new for 2017. I didn't know they put it on 2016 models. Maybe, 2016's in the later production batch ? So, OTD means you really want the dealer to discount to $45k or so considering Tax title and license. I'd be happy for you if you can score that. There is only 1 way to find out.

I see you are in Orange NJ--take a ride to Kerbeck in Ac and save a bundle. Those dealer numbers are very high.

@Dave: June offer currently is 10% off MSRP or 0% for 60 month.
@tcinla: I get it $50k is unreasonable then. How about $53k, is this still unreasonable? Down payment will be about $40k depending on the trade in value of the S4 + finance the balance.
@corgidog: Thanks for your suggestion. I am not sure if the $$$ save is substantial enough to compensate for a two hours drive. I once had a bad experience with Long island dealer. I thought it would save me about $2k, but the dealer screw up something which I don't remember and force me to go back and forth several time get stuck in the traffic for hours. Since I promise to myself never buy another car at a long distance dealer.
I just browse kerbeck inventory and see they have only one base 1LT and 2LT with WCG color @ $52,353 and @$56,363 . Definitely not worth the travel for $1k off of the base. If $56,363 2LT OTD then I may bite another bullet and go down there.
@all: I reduce the questions to two.
- is it a yeah or nah for $53k OTD?
- would you rather pick the Z51 used instead?

I wasn't implying $50k is unreasonable. I'm not that passive-aggressive. I just don't know the current state of supply and demand. I'm really hoping you do get it. Sales people can take being insulted, trust me, so don' worry about that. All they can say is 'No' and counter. Be prepared to walk. As I indicated in December after getting my WGG 1LT stingray, use the power of your feet, and I don't mean olactory... When lowballing, you rarely get an instant 'yes'. The truth is they need to sell that car more than you need to buy it so go in without any hint of 'i have to have it' about you and stay firm.

Brake dust is just as bad on C7. You will have to change your pads to power stop z26 or carbotech pads 1521. Go into any GM dealer a make an offer. Sales are down.Wait till December 15% and 20% discounts happens every year.

I went from a Glacier White S5 to my base A8 C7 and have been thrilled. For starters, it has about 130 more HP and is lighter . . . and the styling is better. Way more fun to drive. Brake dust CONSIDERABLY lower than with my S5.
PS: Glacier White was the hardest chip repair paint I have ever had!!

Here's my thinking and I'm going to number the questions. First, you can propose any number, but you specifically said a 1LT coupe with automatic trans--that already is an option and not a $50 one. It IS a last-year model now that the '18s are being made, but still....I think you'll get one somewhere closer to the $53K mark. JMO, and I admit I could be wrong.
Second, a 695 mile means something but it is used and it is a '16. I'd look carefully at it, but if this is your first Corvette, I'm not 100% sold on the fact you "need" a Z51 optioned car. If it's significantly less expensive and with a Certified status, that helps IMO.
Third, the longer you wait, the (far) less choice you will have in everything including finding a 1LT at the price you want that isn't the least desirable optioned and color. Yes, you CAN get a better price---maybe---but it will be at your expense of option, color, etc.
Last, 4 is the same for 3. Longer you wait, less choice, may have to go farther afield from your current location.
Good luck.

Thank you all for your great advice and comments.
Will it be a good idea if I send an email and propose my $51k cash price for the car to all the dealer around me and will negotiate from there?
Based on another comment from experience Vette, the Z51 is definitely not for me. So I will stick with the Stingray 1LT.
<<...The Z51 has a larger oil reservoir, so it will take more money in maintenance costs.
The Z51 requires someone to know how to drain the oil and check the oil level in a dry sump tank (surprisingly, many technicians have gotten this wrong over the years causing owners some grief).
The Z51 could have a stiffer ride, unless you pay for the extra magnetic selective ride control (MSRC) option...>>
@hoover: I look at cars.com. I am not sure what trim are they, but all the NJ ones starts from $57k and up. So sad to be in NJ!
@AOroads: <<..the longer you wait, the (far) less choice you will have... >>, it would be true for the 2017 model. But how about 2018, would I have more choice?
@JonMN: thank you for reinforcing my conviction to get a vette. My entire S4 is covered with xpel ultimate film. So no chips paint, scratch, dents what so ever. The dirts do build up by the film edge and looks ugly though. Even though I always wash it after the rain, snow and at least once or twice a week in the summer.
@tcinla: As you may notice, another person also think that $53k is more reasonable. I will start with $51k and negotiate from there.

I got my 2017 at Kerbeck last month for just under $50k out the door. 1LT with carbon badges and black wheels, manual transmission.
Kerbeck made the deal WAY to smooth and easy. Effort was a 2 out of 10 with 10 being a ton of effort.
Your offer is reasonable NOW.

Looking at Kerbeck's website just now, they have a Watkins Glen Gray 1LT Auto, for $48.845, down from $58,170. That seems like a heck of a deal and exactly what you were looking for. My transaction with Amoni at Kerbeck was the easiest car purchase I have made in 30 years.
