Default Leftover 2016 Z06 2lz Pricing

Hey guys! I am currently a prospective buyer for a c7 corvette.

Originally I was looking to shop for a 2017 Grand Sport 2LT since I saw such good discounts for them from the major volume dealerships and it was in my price range.
BUT I did some more research to see if I can get into a Z06 and I found a leftover "new" 2016 Z06 2LZ that also had a good discount. halfway around the country as well.

it had a MSRP of $86,245 but it was listed for $73,000. (almost 15% off)

I gave them a call and had asked to see if they can do a better pricing on that especially since most 2017s, I can find it for 15% off.

I offered that if they can get as close to 25% off, then I would like to proceed and I just got a call back and he basically said there is no wiggle room.

My question is, is it wrong for me to expect that much of a discount on a 2016 especially since the 2018s are already being delivered and 2017s can be had with big of a discount too?
Maybe that's why they're having a hard time moving it?

25% off would be $64,700 - about what wholesale is for a 2016 Z06 with 5,000 miles would be. Can't see a dealer taking a big loss on a car to price it for what a trade in would sell for?
You might be able to get close to 20% off - $69,000, but beyond that I doubt it.
Most of the big dealer are at 11-13% off for 2017 Z06's, and 9-10% for 2018's.

I bought my 2016 in November from H&H (Omaha) right at the break of winter. I got 23% off MSRP and they took good care of me. It can be done but you have to find the right dealer.

you are right. I mostly see 11-13 and rare cases of 15% off for 2017s. But not too long ago, they were doing better than that. I only threw 25% at first to see if they could throw a counter off that's as close as possible. If they said we can only do 20% i would still consider it.

He said maybe next month with more possible incentives they could work something out.

It just doesnt seem smart going with a 2016 that has prob sat close to 2 years just to get only 2% more than a 2017.

thank you for your feedback!

^^^^ It's not the dealer that wil lmake the big difference, but GM cash rebates that will get it to 20+% off. I got a 2016 2LZ Z07 for 21% off which included 10% from GM. I haven't seen any 20*% deals that weren't red tagged.

One point to make to the dealer is that the car is now 2 MODEL years old. So, yes, it's a "new" car, and the minute you drive it away, it is a 2 year old "used" car.

I also understand that but itll be a 2 year old car with very little mileage. Long term when I try to sell it, wouldn't that help me tremendously?

great point! Maybe that's why he advised me to wait next month? Any idea what incentives are coming up for next month?

With just a little work, you can find 20% off on '17's; a two year old (2016) car should be less. Put your cash on the table with add of 2017 deals....tell them to take it or walk.

They are getting rebate on the backside from GM for selling leftover '16's.

Unless mileage is outrageous (say like 70,000 miles on a 2 year old car), it (mileage) is NOT much of a factor in used car value. In the end, you will own a brand new, 2 year old, used car, and when you go to trade it years from now, the original purchasing conditions will NOT matter. So, while I see the dealer's problem with having a NEW 2 year old car, that is NOT your problem. As others have pointed out, offering you an $86K 2 year old car for $73K is NOT a good deal for you (but it is for the dealer).

Some people who got those great deals also took advantage of a $2K Corvette Loyalty rebate that GM pulled back in May.

The dealer is probably holding out hope that it will sell soon, but the truth is 15% off is not really an amazing deal on a 2 model year old car. I would hold out for closer to 20% off and if it keeps sitting there after July or so they may go for it.

25% discount is not going to happen. Does not matter what forum members say, the final word is those of the dealer. Good luck.

It seems the dealers with left over 16s aren't worried about getting rid of them. I found one with my specs and color. However they want as much as a 17 for it. I'm still holding out for better incentives on a 17.

If a dealer has a left over '16 when the '18's are coming out just tells me that is a dealer that doesn't like to negotiate..

To that point, what motivates a dealer to operate like that? What advantage is there in keeping a two year old car on the lot? At some point I would imagine they would want to trade or sell it for cost just to move it off the books. I experienced this when looking for my last Mustang.

I think the term is "floorplan support", in English, GM Financial will subsidize inventory for quite a while, at least for certain models. The local dealer has kept some niche cars for 2 model years before they disappear (examples: SS sedan and a loaded with every option Stingray). I won't say sold because they might have gone to another dealer or auction.

No, you are wrong on that one. The other posters above are accurate. It will take something to "incentivize" the dealer. I think LI, dvillin, justplain, etc. have hit the mark. Still, some dealers do like to move inventory but this one seems to like sitting on it. In the past, you would be surprised how many posters come on describing two, three year old "new" cars sitting on lots with dealers who won't deal. And the cars look bad, too. That's life!

what do you mean the cars look bad? as in it's in bad condition...?

this one seems like a desirable color combo too. White exterior with red interior. silver wheels. just a low option no nonsense 2lz.

maybe the guys above are right. some dealerships like to sit on inventory....

If you leave a car outside, seldom wash it, it rains, it snows, it gets "brushed off", etc.---yes, the cars look bad. After 1, 2, or 3 years, depending on how it's been treated (and how many outdoor winters it's gone thru).

a 2017 Z06 was listed on Ebay by a volume (forum) dealer two weeks ago for $69,900 (obo.) so why go dumpster diving for 16's? If a 16 is still on a lot, that dealer has a real issue with moving product.
