Every manual car I've driven has been notchy when cold. This is caused by cold trans fluid. Every other point listed by Dave is inaccurate and I'm not sure why he continues to attack this transmission. CAGS is a non issue in this car. If you run into it just quickly move the shifter into the neutral position and it will then drop right into second. You don't even have to lift the clutch while doing this. I usually just pass CAGS by revving a little higher. It doesn't take many revs to pass CAGS. With all that being said I'm not commenting on which transmission is technically better. It is a personal choice.
I have a '15 M7 and am happy to report that after 8,000 miles the trans just keeps getting better...notchy at first, but after some miles it shifts like an M7 should...other than a few fogged headlights replaced under warranty, I couldn't be happier.
I've sold my '65 L78 coupe and will be in the market for a 2015-2016 C7. It has be be a manual for me. I did a search but couldn't find a thread that covers any issues with the M7.
After reading all the threads about TC problems with the A8, I will stick to the M7
... because there aren't any.
My M7 has been problem free, and one of the best manuals that I've ever owned. I know several others who have the M7 without any issues. I am confident that your experience w/the M7 will be similar.
Transmission choice is highly personal. I can only speak to my own personal experience. I had a '14 Z51 7M that I put 27k miles on. The 7M was problem free & I loved it. I did notice the 1-2 notchiness when cold that never bothered me. It went away quickly after a short drive. I now have a '17 Z06 7M and it feels almost identical to my previous car & I am very happy with it.
I have a M7 Grand Sport and couldn't be happier. This manual tranny fits the character of this car perfectly. So much fun to drive. I to have noticed the cold 1-2 shifts but have noticed that on every manual transmission I have owned. I was on the fence between auto and manual before I purchased the car. Glad I went the 7M route.
as others indicated, slight notch in 1 to 2 shift but this is the first (of six) Vettes I've owned where I have not felt the need for a short shift kit....I even like the stock **** enough not to replace it!
The "marbles in the coffee can" sound was a characteristic with the Tremec 6 speed used in the C5. It was annoying, but never caused a C5 to end up on a tow-truck........ The 7 speed in the C7 does not have this noise.
The clutch pedal sticking to the floor (and the need to change the clutch fluid via turkey baster) was also only a C5 issue.....only for people who over-revved when drag racing.......

CAGS was annoying on my C5, but not on the C7.
Coffee can of marbles? Yea, characteristic of the C5 at power off, but not on the C7 at any time that I have ever heard.
I hope those of you who live in the US realize how lucky you are. I had a beautiful, low mileage black, 2016 lined up to buy. The guy who bought my '65 hasn't picked my car up yet and hasn't paid the remaining balance of the purchase price.
As luck would have it, the black C7 was sold on Thursday night.
The sales manager at the dealer is good to work with. Showed me a few others on the lot but I really want a M7.
That's when we went down in the basement of dealership where cars are stored until they are prepped. Showed me a new red Z51, LT2 with skirts and spoiler. Beautiful car and a manual too.
I see some of the discounting you are getting in the US but that's not happening here. The first go around came to $91k CDN. I haven't started the negotiation yet and won't until the money is in the bank from the new owner of my '65.
What kills us is the 33% exchange rate plus the 13% GST tax. Plus all of the other ridiculous add-ons: freight and air tax $2100, financed after markets (whatever that is) $199, Misc fees $380.25, all insurances $32, other charges $54.60.
There is a rebate of $1500 if I sign up for the GM credit card.
I don't think the dealer is at fault here. I think it's our screwed up money hungry governments who spend money they don't have.
And if you think all healthcare is free here, it isn't.
I'd like to live in the US in a warm climate.
That's my rant for the day.
