Hey, anybody out there go the DIY route on a C7 ceramic coat? I'm looking at the fender and rear venting and wondering do I just skip it, or attempt to coat. My gut says it's too complicated and/or just won't turn out uniform.
Related, I have some Blackfire Cyrstal Coat Paint Prep...is that safe for xPel PPF?
C-Magic has a new ceramic coat called Radiant I used it and it was very easy to apply I think it came out great I did 2 coats of Radiant then re-waxed with C- Magic wax.
Thanks, that looks like an easy application. I'll keep it in mind next time. This go-around I've already comitted to the Blackfire Crystal Coat system.
Have you already done the PPF or are you wondering if its OK to have the Blackfire on prior to doing PPF? Wasn't clear based on how you had it worded.
You mention paint correction too. A good XPel installer will do the paint correction and all prep prior to installation, you're paying for that usually. So maybe just let them do it?
I've seen the XPel folks on here recommend to not do a ceramic coat prior to the PPF install, but its OK after.... But not sure where you're headed, maybe the PPF is sometime in the future for you?
Ok then :-). With regards to the Blackfire stuff, the XPel rep on the forums posted this previously, I just copy / pasted.
"If you are going to use another companies products, please verify the MSDS sheet of that specific product that it does not contain high amounts of petroleum distillates such as naphtha and/or kerosene. As these chemicals can cause issues with the film."
In that same post he said to someone that was asking about some Adams Brilliant Glaze:
"We would not recommend this product. The BG has 30-35% Petroleum Distillates and 15-20% Naphtha. So it could potentially harm paint protection film"
So good to check out the details of what is in it to avoid future issues or warrant stuff
For mine I just use EcoSmart RU to clean off and occasionally I'll use Reload over it. One of the reasons I had it put on is that it is fairly low maintenance.
Yes on the vents, and it's fine. I wouldn't skip anything I could do.
I coated everything with Wolfgang ceramic, paint, windshield, lights, and wheels. Best thing I did for the ease of maintaining the car at washing time.
I'm about to be doing a full paint restoration and ceramic coating myself for the first time ever! It's gonna be on my youtube channel in case you want to check it out. I've never worked with a DA nor the ceramic coating so it should be pretty fun. feel free to subscribe www.youtube.com/phrenetikk I'll probably be doing it next weekend

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes peeled for it. The DA was much easier to manage than I anticipated.

I'm getting up the ***** to wet sand mine.Buffed cars 30yrs. ago.Never burned any paint. The new orbital looks so much easier. The old way was how to tip the buffer to clean.Dragging a metal 3 wheel cleaning tool to clean the pad.
Paint correction is very tricky and time consuming. Thus: The bill ya get from the pro's.Paint repair ain't cheap...Making your car worse might not be worth the risk??
The Warden Sez: Practice on the pick-up...I Hate it when their right
I'll be Lurking on your Vid..Hope all goes well
You're pretty brave to wet sand a C7. There's not much paint on it and you need a paint thicknes meter to be safe. Look for videos from Esoteric auto using a Rupes polisher to correct the paint on.Z06. There's definitely not enough paint to completely remove all the orange peel, but there is room to make it look much better.
