Perfectly safe, the shelf life for unopened oil is about 10 years. And M1 hasn't reformulated in quite a while, so that 4 year old oil is most likely the same formula that is currently on the shelves too.

The Mobil 1 site says it's good for five years in a sealed container, but I would agree with Patman that it can go longer. I would never discard oil that is five years old, but I would try to use it before that if possible.
