Default paints - different processes?

Hi Folks! Thinking about the options and hoping to be a new Vette owner soon!

Noticed different prices for different paints? Is there a difference in the processes that go into the the admiral blues and the long beach reds?

I can't speak directly to the Corvette's Admiral Blue and Long Beach Red, but as a general rule, reds and blues are some of the more expensive pigment colorations. Also, I'm not sure it is applicable specifically to these two colors, but some paint hues may also require a tinted clear coat instead of regular clear, or more layers of base or clear coat - that can also affect the cost to paint the car in some colors. I'm sure we have some body shop paint gurus who can provide even more details.

FWIW, there was confusion some years ago about the colors that cost more called "Tint Coat." Was clarified by a Corvette Forum moderator after a tour of the factory.

It's not a third clear coat, one tinted, as some of us were lead to believe. It's still only one clear coat that is tinted and the extra cost is in addition to any paint materials the 1) extra labor and time required and extra cleaning fluids etc required to clean the standard clear from the painting robots, 2) install the Tint Coat clear for that particular paint color and 3) then clean out that tinted clear and return it to the standard clear.

I had a C6 Yellow Tint Coat and my 2014 C7 was Crystal Red Tint Coat and cost $995 extra.

There was only so much time available so it limited how many Tint Coats could be offered. That was all with the old paint line-not sure what the new paint line will cause in the way of increased labor for certain colors-if any.

Don't metallic paints cost more than non-metallic paints?

Long Beach Red is a premium color with an extra $950 price tag. Admiral Blue is a base color at no extra cost. My color choice for my 2017 came down to these two colors, went with Admiral Blue because of cost.

Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat option was $995.00 on my 2017 Z06
