Default 2017 vs 2018 Tires

I'm finally shopping for my new C7 - had planned on ordering in Nov when the plant reopened, something has come up and I need to go ahead and make the purchase, so I'm on the wall between a 2017 and 2018. I know that for 2018 the 19/20 wheels & tires are now standard. My question is are these the same tires as the Z51 has, or are they a separate tire that is for the base Stingray. With things I have read on here about the Z51 tires being sticky, throwing up gravel, and the short tread life, I would just soon go with the base Stingray tires. Strictly looking for a base Stingray with the 2LT package. Only option I'm looking for is the A8. Transparent top would be nice, but I can order/add that at a later time.

I've also noticed that while looking online, that most of the dealer websites, when you click on the 'Window Sticker' tab to see what options are on the car, that when the window sticker comes up, it says for options, to see/contact the dealer. What's up with that?

It appears that stunt to not have all the options showing forces one to go to the individual dealer's website to obtain that info. IMHO, unless there's more to it than meets the eye, a totally bonehead move. Tons of us vette junkies are constantly scouring the internet for our next vette that we absolutely don't NEED, as we have at least one already, but naturally that has no bearing on our endless quest for ANOTHER vette we can't live without.

So it looks like some corporate wizards, threw a nice damper on making it EASY to get all excited with how a vehicle is equipped and maybe make an impulse buy that would fatten GM's coffers. Mary Barra, unless she's the one who dreamed this up and I highly doubt she did, needs to place a swift kick in the rear of those responsible for this **** up.

Cork,

They are the same tires (Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Zero Pressure, AKA runflats) as the 19/20s that have been on the Z51 since the beginning (2014). The base Corvettes have always gotten the same tire, just in 18/19 sizes. GS and Z06 also have larger versions of the same tire. They are all equally sticky.

It's the #1 rated max performance summer ZP tire on the market.

In 2014, we mounted 19x20 HRE's with OEM Z51 size Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s on our base suspension car. This tire has been replaced with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Just mounted a set from Discount Tire.

My 2018 was about $50 more then a new 2017 at MacMulkin, why get a car technically a year older

Not exactly, there is no PS4S runflat available. Thus, the PSS ZP is still standard equipment on all C7s and is alive and well.

I agree, why buy a 2017 when a 2018 is only $50 more, but in reality you can find a much better deal right now on a 2017 than you'll get on a 2018. So even if the MSRP is roughly the same, you will save thousands more on a 2017.

I don't think people who say things like, "it's only $50 more," are very often comparing apples-to-apples when it comes to options. Yes, you can probably get a 2017 with more options for the same price or less as a "stripped-down" 2018.

Thanks Foosh - Didn't realize they were the same tire, only a different size. Just seemed that Z51 cars were going through tires much faster than Non Z51.

One theory is that they are driven harder.

I agree Muscle - although finding it difficult on dealer websites also to find the exact options that are listed on vehicles. Most just seem to have a generic listing, and sometimes, a phone call or email doesn't even get the correct answer.

Perhaps, but that's all driver dependent. Perhaps those who buy Z51, GS, Z06 are more likely to wear out tires more quickly with aggressive driving.

Bvvet - I hear what your saying, and that is making the decision even more challenging. Had I gotten off the fence in June when the big incentives were in place for the 2017's, it would have been much easier. Now that the discounts aren't as big, it's a tougher decision to make.

Except that at most dealerships, the sticker works. It's unlikely a Mary Bara conspiracy and more likely a question of dealer competence. GM provides websites to the dealership, which is why they all look roughly alike, but the dealer still has to input information and maybe even choose options. To jump into a "GM conspiracy to thwart the masses" has no basis in fact. It's imaginary.

I've been shopping for a Camaro and I've found that the window sticker button is worthless. However, the dealer sites all have a row of tabs for specs, etc. One of those tabs is options, if you click that, it will list everything the car has option wise, that common sense says should be on the window sticker page.

If the 2018 is "only $50 more," it's an easy choice to upgrade to in order to miss the 2017's depreciation.

The 2018s are not cost optioned the same as the 2017s, either.

I can get a built to order new 2018 @ MSRP less 11%.
That's enough savings for me to roll with a 2018. 👍

Where is the Jeff Hardy website when we need it to tell what dealers have what cars and with what options?

The Jeff Hardy site was such a great resource! I am surprised nobody kept it going after he died.

How you drive it most important. Some have indicated getting over 25,000 miles on Z51 tires. Much better than I got on my C6 Z51 and my other Vettes. Recall getting ~10,000 with the 1st set on my '88!

Don't expect to get 25,000 on my Grand Sport although I did have it aligned to reduce the camber from the as delivered, -1.4 to -1.7. It 's now of the low end on the very broad GM camber spec for the Grand Sport. Sacrifice some max corning speed but not much from what I have already achieved! If I get close to 20,000 be very happy.

Anyone have an idea of any performance difference between base 2017 & base 2018 wheels and tires. If the 2017 are shorter wheels and the same height tires, I'd imagine slightly more acceleration, not sure about the cornering. That's just my guess assuming the same tire height.

Think there's any difference in ride?
