Default Used 2014 – What to look for

I currently have a 2009 Corvette and am looking to upgrade to a C7. I just looked at a low mileage 2014 and since it is the first year of the C7 anything I need to look out for? The car is a 2LT with the Z51 package and a 7spd manual.

Thank you

Default Interestingly enough.....

.......the 2014 has had fewer problems than the later years; if it's a manual the shift from 1st to 2nd can be a little "graunchy" before the tranny warms, if its the 6 speed auto you've avoided the real hassles people have had with the later 8 speed auto.

There have been some problems with the head unit sometimes blanking out/dying and the feature of dropping the screen to access the space behind had frozen on some, but that tended to happen earlier in the life of the car if it did occur.

My '14 red 7MT Z51 1LT conv. has been just fine with about 10,800 miles and one year of ownership but the again I have fewer options....good luck and enjoy

My '14 at 25K miles has been perfect. M7 Coupe. From following the forum the past three years, it looks like the 14s are more trouble-free than later ones. Especially the 6spd auto Vs the 8spd auto from '15 forward.

With the added depreciation that a 4 model year car presents.... it's gotta make it an excellent used Corvette purchase. Enjoy the hunt!

There's nothing mechanically different about a 14 M7 and any other M7 model year. My '14 M7 has also been completely bullet-proof.

Remember - you can't get Android Auto/Car Play and you don't have a front camera nor the auto hatch pull down. Those came in in 2016.

At the 3 year+ stage of a Corvette, mileage can depreciate the car more than age.

ie -A 2015 with 20k miles is worth less than an identical 2014 with 6k miles.

My 2014 2LT, manual has never been back to the dealer or had any mechanical problems.
I would skip the Z51 stuff unless you need it for the track..
I ordered mine special just to keep MSRP around $58,000.

I did not really want the eLSD, coolers, etc that come with the Z51.

I own a 2014 Corvette coupe, automatic, 3LT- have 9500 miles on my car now - bought new January 2014. It has had some warranty work- information screen scrolled/jumped and had to be replaced, cooling seat feature had to have freon removed so they would cool ( that's what dealership said that they had to release some of freon to air conditioner to fix the problem), and middle vent had to be replaced as it would shut whenever air conditioner was turned on maximum ! Other then that , perfect! Great car and fun to drive !

2014 with 20500 miles. Had AFM belt tensioner replaced and the center screen replaced. No rattles,no squeaks, no problems. It is the 3lt, with carbon fiber and transparent tops, never the first noise from them. I thought about waiting a year to get the bugs worked out of the new model, glad I didn't!

This is a big issue if it is about to go out of the 36 month warranty as most '14 C7s have or are about to. The cost of the replacement infotainment screen and the labor to install runs close to $1000.00. If this is an early C7 it is no doubt out of warranty with the probability this issue may still happen is real in the future if it has not already been replaced. A Chevy dealer can research that. If they find that no infotainment screen was replaced I would suggest getting them to give you at least a 12 month extended warranty for at least this specific repair. Why 12 months? Because replacement parts have that warranty when installed at a Chevy Dealer.

How do I know this? Because this happened to my '14 C7 (VIN ~5000) at around 7500 miles still covered under the 36 month warranty.

Three items:
1. Check the GM service record to see what has happened to this car under warranty.
2. You mentioned Z51 but you didn't mention Magnetic Ride Control. Some have been disappointed with the stiff ride of Z51 in cars without Magnetic Ride Control. Make sure you're OK with the ride. If it does have MRC, disregard this comment.
3. This is rare, but there are a few 2014 Z51s that don't have NPP dual mode exhaust. That's because it wasn't standard on the Z51 until 2015. While the vast majority do have dual mode exhaust, you should check for this when you test drive the car. If it doesn't have it, it can not be installed aftermarket like the C6 as it's an entirely different system.
My 2014 is an absolute joy. As has been mentioned, most 2014s are bullet proof.
